This book includes memory charms, vampires, werewolves, and all matter of underworld characters that will make you think about which side you want to root for. The characters are younger, so teens and adults alike can understand the angst of young love and the drama of coming of age. I like this book because of its diverse group of characters and well-thought-out story, and the process of making you think that mythologies and legends can be incorporated into a modern-day setting.

Yes, another trilogy with another terrible film adaptation, so they never made a second or third movie. It was this book that made me add seeing the Northern Lights to be put on my bucket list. This story has a talking, ready-to-battle polar bear and a young girl named Clara. Each human has a spirit animal following them around, giving their human guidance, support, and laughter when needed. These animals were part of their soul, and to rip them away from the children would be catastrophic to both parties. But someone had been kidnapping the children and experimenting on them to do just that. All three books satisfied my thirst for the fantasy element, but His Dark Materials bought something different to this trope of fantasy books. There were fascinating science elements weaved in with fantasy, such as using a knife to slice into another world.

Hush, Hush is a trilogy about a romance between an angel and a human. For this fallen angel to get his wings and be allowed back in Heaven, he has to kill the human, who happens to be his soul mate and who he is madly in love with. The twists keep coming, the plot gets more intriguing and nail-biting the further we get into the book, and the love story between Patch and Nora can give Bella and Edward a run for their money in the most forbidden but hot love story contest.

The books were optioned for film, but that fell through, although Becca had other books published after Hush, Hush. The last time there were any new publications was in 2014.

This book was more fun for me. Not as serious as most vampire books but it still was very entertaining and kept my attention from beginning to end. I loved the plotline of this story and once again you could tell the author put a lot of thought and effort into the world-building. And the characters. More of a Harry Potter-type feel with a lot of scandal and backstabbing. This book had me interested in the romance between the characters, and it’s a book that keeps you guessing. I'm not much of a romance reader so even recommending this book says a lot. I was reading his book while writing my first vampire series. 

Now you've all heard of Mortal Instruments, the set of books that was never going to end, and the flop of the movie and the T.V. series being shut down, not giving the fans a H.E.A. But I bet you haven't heard of Infernal Devices. These are three books, yes, another trilogy. Although Infernal Devices is a prequel to Mortal Instruments, there is a huge difference between the two stories. And yes, I read them in the wrong order. But Mortal Instruments never took hold of my heart and squeezed it, like Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince, and Clockwork Princess did. These books have all the fantasy elements you would expect from a Cassandra Claire novel, the danger, the thrills, but what was added to all this was a heart-wrenching love story that will have you crying in your tissues and screaming why! Why is life so unfair?

I remember finding this book so intriguing at the time. For a start, it's written by two authors, a mother and daughter team. Growing up I used to write with friends and family, each taking in turns to write a page and then passing it to the other for their turn. It was great fun, but ultimately ended in a mess as we were each fighting to take the story in the direction we wanted. So I enjoyed that the partnership in Marked worked.

The magic and ritual element also drew me in. As someone who dabbles in the spiritual, with card reading, candles, and the like, it was interesting to see how it could be brought into fiction in a different way while also introducing some Cherokee wisdom.

This book seems to divide opinions, but for me it was love at first sight. It was the first book I had read where they delve into the battle of the fallen. I was mid writing my own book at the time, which also features my version of events, so it was fascinating to read another author's take on the history of angels.

I found the story quite dark and atmospheric, and I enjoyed unravelling the past along with the main character, Luce. There's also a romance laced through the pages with two love interests where I found myself rooting for the 'bad guy'. Perhaps this is where I gained my enjoyment of a love triangle in books. 

Being a Dracula fan, I was intrigued when I heard that Bloodline was its unofficial sequel. Bloodline is written in the form of journal entries and letters. While that isn’t my preferred writing style, it worked for this one. The story begins during World War I. The main character, John, sees some disturbing things concerning his regiment commander, Quincey. He doesn’t know why Quincey is so cruel but will understand in time. The mood was similar to the mood in Dracula. The vampire was the typical, evil vampire while the main character had to figure out what was going on and try to save the day. While not everything was resolved the way I wanted it to, I definitely enjoyed this novel and read the sequel also. I recommend it to people who like Dracula.

A world exists around us that we never knew existed. When all you want is to be accepted, it is hard to find love.

I found that two people can find love regardless of what creature bore them. Family may not always understand what you want, but as long as there is trust and a little bit of humor, anything is possible.
