Why read it?

2 authors picked Clockwork Angel as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

Now you've all heard of Mortal Instruments, the set of books that was never going to end, and the flop of the movie and the T.V. series being shut down, not giving the fans a H.E.A. But I bet you haven't heard of Infernal Devices. These are three books, yes, another trilogy. Although Infernal Devices is a prequel to Mortal Instruments, there is a huge difference between the two stories. And yes, I read them in the wrong order. But Mortal Instruments never took hold of my heart and squeezed it, like Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince, and Clockwork Princess did.…

I was intrigued by this YA novel’s supernatural vibe. I enjoyed how this story incorporated angels, demons, shapeshifters, and automatons into old-world New York and London settings. I found the ensemble of paranormal and supernatural species to have a comic book quality as to the diversity of their talents and abilities to fight for good or with evil. The lead character Tessa is on a journey to find her brother and discovers things about herself that change her perspective of her own place in the world. Why am I passionate about this?

Since reading The Lion, the Witch, and Wardrobe, Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz, and The Crystal Cave as a kid and teen, I’ve been hooked on all things magical. I love the fantasy genre and characters who are driven to use their powers to protect their tribes. I am constantly reading books about witches, vampires, the fae, sirens, shifters, and any other supernatural character with a good storyline surrounding them. L.J. Smith, Cassandra Clare, P.C. and Kristin Cast, Stephenie Meyer, and so many other YA fantasy writers are absolutely my heroes. Fantasy books not only entertain but have helped me process life and our world in a safe environment.
