Imagination knows no bounds. That's what I love about reading and writing fantasy. No matter what you create, a name, a monster, or a type of food, it exists because it exists in your mind. I can get lost in the authors' worlds and become part of the adventure. I wrote the duology, yep, two books, after watching Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, at the cinema. When I arrived home, I had the first book plotted in my head: the characters, the conflict. In my head, I built a fantasy world without elves, hobbits, dragons, and dwarfs. Even the names of the characters. All thanks to the inspiring storytelling of Tolkien.
Nope, not a trilogy. In fact, this went on to 15 books covering three seasons. As you can tell from the title, the books are about Vampires. But something different drew me into the books rather than leaving me cold (pun). The books are so fast-paced that you end up caring for every character introduced to you, including the bad guys. I put myself in the MC Claire's shoes, and it didn't feel farfetched. And vampires are not the only thing lurking in Morganville, but when Claire is given one of the highest regards by a royal, Claire becomes untouchable unless they can kill off the royal bloodline first. Claire has to make some tough decisions in the book and remember that though she may have befriended the vamps, she has human friends she also needs to protect.

I’m an author of contemporary/urban fantasy, and an avid reader of the genre for over twenty-five years. I can still remember my very first vampire read, Secret Vampire by LJ Smith. I don't get to read as many books as I would like, partly because I take my time to ensure I don’t skim over details. This way, the story sinks in and its meaning becomes deeper and clearer. I also apply this to my own books to give the reader an immersive experience. As a British author, all of my writing is set in the UK, which I think brings a different dimension to a market that's flooded with novels based in the USA.
This book seems to divide opinions, but for me it was love at first sight. It was the first book I had read where they delve into the battle of the fallen. I was mid writing my own book at the time, which also features my version of events, so it was fascinating to read another author's take on the history of angels.
I found the story quite dark and atmospheric, and I enjoyed unravelling the past along with the main character, Luce. There's also a romance laced through the pages with two love interests where I found myself rooting for the 'bad guy'. Perhaps this is where I gained my enjoyment of a love triangle in books.

I’m a huge fan of paranormal and dark romance, and these books definitely check all my boxes. Great world-building, plots that engage, and in most cases, a heavy dollop of smut. They also explore the unexpected and take into account real-world concerns in a fashion where you can absolutely justify the decisions the main characters are making.
Serena Akeroyd is the absolute goddess of MC books, as far as I’m concerned. They’re gritty, sexy, hardcore, and totally believable. I went through this series ravenously and then everything else she’s ever written.
My favorite thing about her books is though all her characters are deeply flawed, they are all redeemable, even when they don’t think so themselves. The women especially aren’t there just to lift the men up; they’re fully-fledged characters in their own right, working through their own issues.

I grew up with Irish folklore, Lord of the Rings, and X-Men comics as my bedtime stories, but I am also a domestic violence survivor twice over with c-PTSD. I was never able to get justice for anyone who hurt me. I created my stories as a way to cope and understand my feelings and triggers by making them their own personalities. So, I made my trauma available for everyone in a fantasy setting with two love interests to adore the heroine who had to endure so much but never gave up on giving people someone to root for when they couldn’t for themselves anymore.
I loved the premise of this series. It's such a different take on fated mates that it was just refreshing! I also loved the main female character. She’s so stubborn and willing to do whatever it takes to do what is needed, even if it’s not on the up and up. And the unhinged males were fabulous as well!

I’ve always loved reading young adult fantasy books with forbidden romance and lush worldbuilding and classic fairytale elements like princesses, dancing, pretty clothes, and delicious food spreads. All these books offer fresh takes and twists, and tug at your heartstrings with the angst, the betrayals, the secrets, and the love. These are all immersive stories that transport you far away, to a different time, to a different land, which is exactly what you need sometimes to get away from this world and its craziness.

I love second-chance romances and I am not in my twenties anymore; so I wrote what I wanted to read. Now, I've found other authors who write 35+, characters who have lived, been hurt, and moved on in life. I do read New Adult or younger than 35 characters and often, really smutty, erotic books as I need to get out of my head sometimes. I love Nora Roberts, Claudia Burgoa, Catharina Maura, Jolie Vines and I'll one-click quite a few indies.
Hard Nox is set in Scotland and is brilliantly
written. It's the start of series two and I fell in love with the world that
Jolie had built. I did put this book down a few chapters in to find the first
book of the first series. I wanted to read them in order and I'm so glad I did.
It was hard at the time to find books showing the Scots dialect and Jolie does
it well. So much so, I'm one of her ARC readers and I have started collecting the
paperback copies. This is my favourite of all her books.

I am an artist, writer, and director of The Wellspring Studio, LLC. When my husband and creative partner, the singer/songwriter Garrison Doles, died unexpectedly just a few years after we were married, I found that I very much did not want to read about grief. I especially did not want to read about managing it or coping with it. Still, there were books that mysteriously found their way to me and drew me in, not with strategies for getting through the grief but with creative, poetic, artful, sometimes offbeat tellings of living with sorrow. These are some of my favorites among them.
I first met this book on the last visit Gary and I made to a beloved bookstore in Seattle. After he died, I remembered it and tracked it down. It is an accordion book, its folded pages nested in a sturdy box. It was made, Carson writes, as an epitaph for her brother.
Among the folds, we find ephemera evoking his memory, and hers: fragments of notes, torn photos, drawings, paintings, scribbles. Running through the pages—a portion appears on the left side of each spread—is Carson’s translation of a poem by the Latin poet Catullus, written after the death of his own brother. The result is an assemblage that testifies to the chaos of grief and the curious beauty it can hold.
Nox is an epitaph in the form of a book, a facsimile of a handmade book Anne Carson wrote and created after the death of her brother. The poem describes coming to terms with his loss through the lens of her translation of Poem 101 by Catullus "for his brother who died in the Troad."
