100 books like Protecting You

Melanie Harlow is the goddess of small-town romance! Her Cloverleigh Farms series is a set of interconnected stand-alone that follows five sisters and their road to love at their family’s Michigan winery. I love seeing the strong female relationships develop and it made me wish I had sisters! Melanie Harlow also writes top-notch spice! I promise once you get into her books, you’ll be bingeing her entire backlist. It’s just that good.

Elsie Silver was a new-to-me author in 2021 and I’m hooked! A Photo Finish is actually book 2 in the series, but they are interconnected stand-alones. In this book, the female main character is a horse jockey. She’s strong, capable, and determined. The male main character is a veteran with secrets of his own and he is delicious and broody and really, really needs a hug. Those two have a secret, salacious past and it was so fun to see them clash and come together for an amazing, feel-good romance.

Kandi Steiner has been described as the queen of angst and it is so true! On the Rocks brings the small town tension together with angst that will definitely keep you up at night. I couldn’t put this down as I kept going, page after page, to see how the two main characters were ever going to find a way to be together. I love that she also gives glimpses of side characters that will eventually get their own books. 

This book has less heat than my other recommendations (but still brings the feels!) but it also combines small-town romance with a dash of Motorcycle Club (MC). It’s definitely not a dark romance, as my MC romances are, but it has mystery, suspense, and action! This is the first book in the series (you do have to read them in order) and focuses on a spunky reporter and former MC members as they try to solve a murder mystery.

This is book one in a trilogy of heartbreak and redemption. The tears I cried for the couple as they fought life and each other were real. They were brought to their knees forced to face the consequences of their actions and forced to recognize their love for each other was never going to be easy. From the first chapter, I was driven into a universe that made me feel real pain and heartbreak, but more than that, real love.  Love that was unconditional and unfathomable. It takes a lot to get there, but their HEA was well worth the struggle.

A dream-activated time travel story. Now that's one I couldn't resist and fortunately, I didn't.

The reader follows the character, Quinn, on a journey as her dreams bring a man that stirs her like no other. Problem? Nick enters her real world, too. They have a history. Complications? Oh, he's dreaming about her, too.

Can they figure out a way to stay connected and understand what's happening? Let’s hope.

Warning: it's a series, but after reading the first book, you'll be glad there's more from this talented author. 

Willingham penned an absolute cracker of a revenge story for the first book in this five-book continuity about the Sons of Sigurd. 

There is an overall mystery of who was responsible for murdering the warriors’ father. After losing his beloved, Alaar Sigurdson has vowed to take revenge and seeks to use captive Breanne O Callahan to get close enough to her foster father, but…the attraction overcomes them in this enemies-to-lovers tale.

It is an absolute page-turner which I inhaled in one sitting. There are reasons why the Sons of Sigurd is a global bestseller.

This story kicks off a series of fairytale retellings filled with intrigue and adventure by sweeping the main character into a world of complex political machinations. She’s offered an opportunity for freedom from her conniving and overbearing family—all she has to do is deliver a message in exchange. But it turns out, the message was more dangerous than she could have imagined. This Cinderella retelling is unique in that there isn’t much magic in it, but it is filled with mystery, conspiracy, and swirling political machinations.

This lovely novel is book #2 in the Books of Bayern series, so I'd highly recommend reading Shannon's fantastic The Goose Girl first — a retelling of an old folk tale. Enna is by far my favorite character of the series, and once she got her own book, this one quickly became one of my top reads. Enna is passionate, headstrong, and a little reckless. She doesn't always make the best decisions, and most importantly, the power she wrestles with flares against her own character flaws, which makes the conflict in the story deeply personal and human. We all wrestle with inner demons of some shape or size. But what if our inner demons could flame out and burn people around us? Enna Burning features a strong protagonist who isn’t your typical fight-for-the-good-guys heroine. In fact, she might just find herself burning for the enemy.  

Duchess is a female rapper who’s worked hard to get to the top of her game. As a rapper, she’s reached the pinnacle of her success. As a skincare entrepreneur, she’s almost at the precipice of realizing her dreams when bad press caused by an unscrupulous adversary in the entertainment industry nearly topples her ambitions. An invitation to a charity performance for the Queen of England’s late consort is exactly what Duchess needs to erase the bad PR. At least she thinks this is a good idea until she meets and ends up having to stay with Prince Jameson, the patron of the charity events.
