Why am I passionate about this?

I am the author of paranormal, fantasy, and middle-grade novels. The inspiration to write in these genres is because of my attraction towards anything supernatural be it paranormal science, mythology, Wicca, witchcraft, occult, fairy folklore, NDE, OBE, psychometry, clairvoyance, angels, necromancy, etc. I love to read and research about them. Child of Paradise (Listen to your Dreams),” is my sixth fiction book and is a paranormal crime thriller. This book touches upon subjects such as after-life, spirit guides, dream visitations, mediums, ghost hunters, homicide, police investigations, and family ties and are for readers who’d love a thriller or a mystery with a supernatural edge.

The books I picked & why

Book cover of Midnight Bayou

Pratibha R DH Why did I love this book?

Midnight Bayou begins with a historical timeline and centres on the reincarnation theme which has always fascinated me. In the story the leading character, Declan Fitzgerald, feels an unexplainable but strong pull towards a dilapidated bayou mansion in New Orleans so much so that he ends up buying the old house. He quits a career he found unfulfilling and leaves his posh life in Boston to restore the old manor to its former glory with sheer devotion. Life at the manor gets creepy though with Declan getting weird dreams, sleepwalking, seeing visions, and hearing voices to name a few. An enthralling paranormal romance by prolific author, Nora Roberts, told in a dual timeline while steeped in an exciting mix of mystery, murder, romance, family secrets, and paranormal visitations.

Book cover of Stealing Shadows

Pratibha R DH Why did I love this book?

This book is an intense psychological thriller that kept me on the edge right towards the end of the book. Cassie Neil has psychic gifts and works with the detectives to locate serial killers wherein her ability to tap into the mind of the killer evoked a chilly feeling in me. But often, her ability to see through the murderer’s eyes didn’t ensure sufficient information to prevent the murders and this often took a toll on her emotionally and spiritually. This was a fresh and exciting read though more than often I was filled with dread hoping there wouldn’t be another victim or guessing who the next one might be! This haunting suspense with an unexpected but interesting twist at the end makes it a delicious paranormal crime thriller.

Book cover of Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye

Pratibha R DH Why did I love this book?

I love psychics especially when they wear detective hats and solve cases with their intuitive abilities. The manner in which they use symbolism to decode the meaning of their visions and premonitions fascinates as well as intrigues me.

Here the main protagonist Abby Cooper runs a business based on her psychic abilities and advises her clients on their future choices regarding their love life, career, financial matters, and sometimes even on finding their path in life.

The manner in which Abby receives information from her spirit guides and studies auras to unravel clues kept me engaged all throughout the story. Altogether it was a light mystery and a good read and I look forward to reading more in this series.

Book cover of Murder in G Major

Pratibha R DH Why did I love this book?

Gethsemane Brown is a classical concert violinist who takes on a job offer in a beautiful cozy village in Ireland. Her lodging is a charming Irish cottage though isolated which gave me jitters, in the beginning, considering this was a paranormal cozy mystery. Envisaging some malefic paranormal activities, the ghost who in fact brusquely crept into her life turned out to be a fun and chatty one. Gethsemane soon finds out that the ghost, Eamon McCarthy, was wrongly accused of murdering his wife twenty-five years ago, and committed suicide himself. When Eamon realises that he can be seen and heard by Gethsemane, he is determined to make the best of this opportunity to seek her help.

Undoubtedly, a well-crafted mystery carrying captivating characters with a smooth blend of paranormal and crime genres.

What is this book about?

“The captivating southwestern Irish countryside adds a delightful element to this paranormal series launch. Gethsemane is an appealing protagonist who is doing the best she can against overwhelming odds.” – Library Journal (starred review) With few other options, African-American classical musician Gethsemane Brown accepts a less-than-ideal position turning a group of rowdy schoolboys into an award-winning orchestra. Stranded without luggage or money in the Irish countryside, she figures any job is better than none. The perk? Housesitting a lovely cliffside cottage. The catch? The ghost of the cottage’s murdered owner haunts the place. Falsely accused of killing his wife (and…

Book cover of Twilight

Pratibha R DH Why did I love this book?

Considering my first book on vampires, Twilight was the perfect choice, as the intoxicating romance between Bella and Edward completely swept me away. Even after a motley of vampire reads this still continues to be my top favourite. Bella’s quiet and reserved charm was like a breath of fresh air unlike the rebellious and know-it-all teenagers that we usually come across. Her personality was distinct wherein she didn’t feel the need to sway under peer pressure but was perfectly fine doing her own thing. This feminine aspect of her personality though was heavily criticized later on. In spite of the cross-species aspect of their relationship, Edward was immensely caring and protective towards his love interest. Their romance was sensual and heart throbbing without being explicit or crude in any way.

Only six times have I been to Africa on holiday; more often, perhaps twenty or more times, as a television producer. Working in Africa gains a perspective of reality that the glories of vacation do not. Each has its place, each its pitfalls like stalled plane rides with emergency landings in the bush or attacks by wildlife. But, in the end, the magic of the “otherness,” what an old friend called “primitava” captures one’s soul and changes your life.
