The most recommended books about swashbuckler

I’m a huge fan of queer re-tellings (as you can probably sense from this list) as well as lush, detailed historical fiction, and C.B. Lee delivers both in this vivid, adrenaline-spiking adventure. My favorite thing about this story is how Lee takes the bones of Treasure Island and reanimates them, bringing a new perspective to a classic by shifting the focus from traditional Western pirate narratives. Riding the waves with Xiang as she discovers her own identity and family history is an absolute delight, and seeing her relationship with Anh grow is a beautiful thrill. 

When I first began writing Christian pirate romances, I had no clue such a genre existed. And then, out of the blue, I discovered MaryLu Tyndall’s The Redemption. This intense and romantic pirate adventure opened me up to a whole new world of fiction and inspired me to continue writing pirate novels that were realistic and exciting. Whether you’re a long-time pirate fan or new to the genre/topic, The Redemption will sweep you away with Charlisse and Merrick on an adventure you won’t soon forget!

This fun-filled piece of pulp sci-fi is a perfect example of the recursive sci-fi genre.

Mike de Wolf, the friend of a popular author, is present as the author’s publisher pressures him to finish a novel he has received the advance money for. The author mentions Mike would be a perfect example of the villain, the Admiral of a Spanish fleet sent to rid the Caribbean of English pirates.

Mike leaves the room and accidentally electrocutes himself in the bathroom, only to find himself still living as the villain of the swashbuckling romance. What follows could be unbelievable, but is so full of realistic period action and the logical reactions and comments of Mike to the typewriter he hears in the sky, that it works quite well.

I absolutely marveled at the strength Charlotte showed in this excellent, rollicking high-seas adventure.

It was terrible, it was life or death for her every day. And she found her way through it. The beautiful survivor strength of the main character is what inspired me. 

Not only is Laura Frantz one of my most favorite authors, her historical romance A Heart Adrift is one of my favorite privateer stories. I quickly fell in love with the swoony Captain Henri Lennox, related to quiet dreamer and chocolatier Esmee Shaw, and was enchanted by every beautiful word that made up this inspiring and intriguing novel! If you love the sea, second chance romance, and stories that will captivate and uplift you, A Heart Adrift is for you!

Elva Cobb Martin is a household name in the Christian pirate romance genre, but I’d never read any of her works until I picked up The Sugar Baron’s Governess. My first novel by her certainly won’t be my last! This perfect combination of sweet romance and fast-paced adventure reminded me why I love this genre so much, and I know it’ll inspire a love for pirate romance in all who read it! Even though it’s the fourth novel in a series, don’t be afraid to dive right in and enjoy! 

The St. Mary’s series is an outstanding time travel series that drags a reader willingly through hill and dale, fire and flood, laughter, and tears, often concurrently.

This fourteenth book in the series is no different. Maxwell and her adventures through time and trouble make me giggle and grip my seat. I’m certain she’s coming to the last of her repeated nine lives. Somehow, she makes landing in excrement, on fire or not, the just right approach to survival and victory, even when it frequently comes with profound loss. Any book that can make my heart race with worry and laugh at the same time is worth a read, more than once.

Ruby’s Sword explores the type of imaginative play that can be had with natural world elements. Letting your kids explore nature in a tangible way does wonders for their learning and ingenuity. A simple stick turns into a sword, turning a little girl into a gallant knight. Our children do not need colourful plastic toys to have fun. All they need is a little fresh air and something as simple as a stick. Once my family moved out to the country, I saw my children transform before my eyes. Rocks have become treasures and bugs their newest friends. With the first signs of spring, socks are flung aside as their naked toes seek sand and grass. Let your kids fall in love with nature and it will be a love affair that lasts a lifetime. 

This book took me on an incredible adventure on the high seas. This historical pirate romance has everything—action, suspense, love, betrayal, bloody battles, and scorching hot steamy scenes. Rich and deep world-building, the depth of characters and storylines, and the beautiful descriptions pulled me into this story and kept me there the same way a riptide drags you under. I was left speechless during some scenes and will never be able to forgot this book as long as I live. The battle of wills between Bennett and Lord Ashley Cutler left me breathless and the scenes with her lover, pirate Priest Farrell, left me sweating. If you love swashbuckling historical romance with a modern twist, you must grab it. Not for the faint of heart or pearl-clutchers.

This was my first experience with Jonathan Auxier and it made me into an instant and always fan of his books. Its fairytale-like feel and enthralling story of Peter Nimble, a blind orphan and master thief, was so wonderful to read, I experienced some serious book withdrawal when I reached the end. (Luckily, we get to spend more time in Peter’s world in Sophie Quire and the Last Storyguard!) This book’s story and characters are so beautifully crafted, you’ll probably want to read this one more than once—like I did!
