100 books like The Synchronicity War Part 1

I first discovered this book as an audiobook several years ago. It was recommended as something similar to Starship Troopers, which I had recently finished. The beginning of the book didn’t grab me at first. As a matter of fact I started to think it was a rip-off of Starship Troopers. But there was something about the main character that made me want to stay to the next chapter. Andrew Grayson is a young man who is very bright, but because he lives in a welfare community in the not-so-distant future, his prospects are limited. One of the only ways he can get out of the PRCs (what the author refers to as the projects) is to join the military. What makes this book work so well is the fact that Andrew is not really special. He is smart and usually a little more capable than the people around him.… show more.

This book is a little more Space Opera than Sci-fi as it focuses more on the adventure than the impossibility of the technology. It takes place thousands of years in the future when man kinds had spread out across the galaxy and forgotten about Earth, for the most part. The characters are not deep, and the story relies more on action than complexity, but it’s fun. It moves from one event to another, the main character is a bit of a rogue that you can’t help but like and his female counterpart is smarter, faster, and deadlier than he will every be, so it's good she is on his side. One of the reasons I like these books (10 book series with some spin-offs) is because it is very different from my style. If my books were Angus Steaks, these would be an Ice-cream Sunday.   

I was once told; the best authors are the ones who read more than they write. To that end I don’t always stick with my favorite genres. This book was recommended to me by a friend as a sci-fi that I typically would not read because it’s also a romance book. Hey Alexa, is slightly in the future, when Amazon develops an evolved version of Alexa that exists in a beautiful female android. I don’t want to give any more away. What makes this book wonderful is the journey the two main characters take in discovering that love is as unique as each individual person and it can be found when we are open to it.  

This is a good book, not great, but good. But I do recommend it to anyone who is interested in writing sci-fi. I love old-school sci-fi with the exception that it doesn’t always portray women in the best ways. Sci-fi has done better than most genres in making room for strong female characters, but not strong women writers. So when a talented writer like Faith Hunter writes a book with a female character who kicks ass and holds her own amongst the male heroes and villains, we should take note. It’s one thing to have a strong female lead written by a man (I try to make my female characters equals in my books), but if you want to study how to write believable strong female leads, then you should seek out writers like Faith Hunter.  

Deepak Chopra gives us a lovingly personal and spiritual perspective of synchronicity. On the practical side, it offers a variety of exercises to help the reader discover the power of synchronicity in his or her own life. In essence, however, it is simply about noticing the organizing intelligence seen through synchronistic events and inviting it into your life. In Chopra’s own words, “You don’t have to assign a specific meaning or interpretation to the coincidences, just … gently appreciate the cosmic coordination of your life with everything else.” This is a book that has changed the lives of its readers.

This book is a rich introduction to the topic of synchronicity, thoughtfully simplifying Carl Jung's original ideas. In the words of Gary Schwartz, PhD., this work “is teeming with delightful and compelling surprises about the nature of meaningful coincidences in contemporary life. This is a brilliant book by a physicist and highly creative thinker. David Peat worked personally with David Bohm in coming to understand the universe as a deep holographic process, one in which the meaning of real events is hidden and enfolded in the “implicate order” beyond time and space. Peat’s literary touch makes this book a must for those who love the study of synchronicity.

In this rare book, Sky Nelson-Isaacs gives us a remarkably insightful and readable understanding of synchronicity and how to live into it. The author speaks with the triple-mind of a physicist, mystic, musician. It is a beautiful introduction to the topic of synchronicity, and how living with the flow brings many life gifts into our lives. Here is a fine first read on the topic of synchronicity. It is also deeply thoughtful and sophisticated upon further study. Easy but sophisticated reading, and a great place to start. Or finish!

Coincidences and synchronicity fascinate me endlessly. I have been collecting books on this subject since 2000. With synchronicity, there’s a connection between your inner state and a physical outer event. And I believe that’s what we evoke while doing readings with tarot cards!

I agree with Dr. Beitman when he says that a meaningful coincidence can lead us to think completely differently about the nature of reality. Sometimes they are little hints that make us suspect that there is a reality where everything is connected to everything. They are lifting ‘The Veils of Maya’, the illusions that prevent us from seeing ‘actual reality’.

Carl Jung is the person who actually coined the term “synchronicity” and was the first to recognize it as an important connecting principle between the unconscious and the outer world. He observed that such events occur when the archetypal processes of the collective and personal unconscious correspond to objective events in the real world. Here, for example, he reports the now-famous case of the patient who dreamed of a scarab beetle, a creature that represented transformation to the ancient Egyptians, only to find a similar beetle tapping on Jung’s consultation room window the next day, as the patient described the dream to him.

For Jung, virtually all authentic instances of synchronicity involve the archetypal unconscious and reflect mythic themes. This book includes a number of the first and best examples in synchronicity literature.
