Iām a full-time writer, part-time editor, and avid reader of romances between queer women. Iāve just published my twenty-third novel, and Iām still amazed and humbled at getting to live my dream: writing sapphic romances for a living. Discovering sapphic books was a life-saver for me since I grew up in a tiny little village, with no openly LGBT+ people around, and I love knowing that my books are now doing the same for my readers.
Breaking Character is a lesbian celebrity romance, but itās also so much more than that. The main character, icy British actress Elizabeth, is in the closet for fear of risking her career. When she meets her younger colleague Summer, she starts letting someone close for the first timeāand the result is a romance that is sizzling and sweet at the same time.
If you like age-gap romances with a fake relationship and well-written characters, this is a great introduction to Lee Winterās books.
Life has become a farcical mess for icy British A-lister Elizabeth Thornton. Americaās most-hated villain stars in a top-rated TV medical drama that she hates. Now, sheās been romantically linked to her perky, new co-star, Summer, due to the young womanās clumsiness. As a closeted actress, thatās the last thing Elizabeth needs. If she could just get her dream movie role, life would be so much better. The only problem is that the eccentric French film-maker offering it insists on meeting her āgirlfriendā, Summer, first.Summer Hayes is devastated when her co-star shuns her for accidentally sparking rumors theyāre lovers. Nowā¦

Ask, Tell is the story of Captain Sabine Fleischer, a surgeon in the US Army during the āDonāt Ask, Donāt Tellā era. The book is told entirely from Sabineās point of view, so as a reader, I could really feel her pining for her superior officer, stunning and competent Colonel Rebecca Keane. Itās a story that will make you laugh and cry and understand much better what LGBT+ people serving in the military went through during that time.
Where can you turn when youāre caught in a crossfire of war and passion?
Captain Sabine Fleischer is a skilled and dedicated U.S. Army surgeon deployed to a combat hospital in Afghanistan. She is also one of the thousands of troops who are forced to serve in silence because of the militaryās anti-gay policy of āDonāt Ask, Donāt Tell (DADT).ā
Usually driven and focused, Sabine finds that battles raging both inside and outside the perimeter walls are making it more and more difficult for her to deal with her emotions. Dealing with loss and mortality, lack of privacy, sleep deprivation,ā¦

This book is the epitome of a slow-burn romance, so as a reader, you get to know both main charactersāsmall-town doctor Maddie and new-in-town librarian Sydāreally well and fall in love with them as you watch them slowly fall in love with each other. The author has a unique sense of humor, and the witty banter between Maddie and Syd made me laugh out loud several times.
Librarian Syd Murphy flees the carnage of a failed marriage by accepting an eighteen-month position in Jericho, a small town in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia. Her plans to hide out and heal her wounds fall by the wayside as she gets drawn into the daily lives of the quirky locals. When Syd gets a flat tire and is rescued by the town physician, Maddie Stevenson, the two women form a fast friendshipābut almost immediately begin struggling with a mutual attraction. And, if thatās not enough, Syd is straight and going through a divorceāand Maddie somehow forgets to mention herā¦
Truth told, folks still ask if Saul Crabtree sold his soul for the perfect voice. If he sold it to angels or devils. A Bristol newspaper once asked: āAre his love songs closer to heaven than dying?ā Others wonder how he wrote a song so sad, everyone who heard itā¦

Without a Front combines two of the genres I enjoy most: a heart-warming romance with three-dimensional characters and a well-written sci-fi novel with amazing world-building. The culture and history of Alsea, a planet of empaths, is portrayed in fascinating detail, but it never distracts from the love story. I fell in love not only with the world but also its characters, most of all Salomen, a stubborn farm owner who is a worthy opponent and eventual love interest for Tal, the ruler of Alsea.
Alsea is fractured in the aftermath of war. So is its leader. Though devastated by a personal loss, Lancer Andira Tal must somehow stitch her world together and move it forward when all the rules have changed. Every decision is fraught with risk, and her enemies wait for her to stumble.
During a global debate over alien technology, Tal stuns the world when she accepts a challenge from her most vocal critic in the producer caste. By trading the staff of office for the tools of a field worker, she hopes to swing the producers to her side.
Iām an avid reader. I still love to hold them in my hands. Not long ago I went dumpster diving for an entire set of encyclopedias. To say I love books is an understatement. Books have always been my passion, destination, and my closest friend.
Sometimes, love is not all it takes to help the ones you love. Sometimes, love pulls you in different directions. If you enjoy reading psychological thrillers with twists, turns, and ultimately engrossing, uncomfortable, and an unpredictable storyline full of paranormal romance. Then I recommend reading Layla. Not my normal genre, but I will say this the writer had me turning pages and I had to read to the end.
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover comes a novel that explores life after tragedy and the enduring spirit of love.
When Leeds meets Layla, he's convinced he'll spend the rest of his life with her-until an unexpected attack leaves Layla fighting for her life. After weeks in the hospital, Layla recovers physically, but the emotional and mental scarring has altered the woman Leeds fell in love with. In order to put their relationship back on track, Leeds whisks Layla away to the bed-and-breakfast where they first met. Once theyā¦
Iāve been a published romance author since 2010, but even before I published my first romance novel, I was an avid reader of the genre. In fact, I started at the very young age of eleven, checking out romance novels from my local public library. Over the years, Iāve read hundreds of books and found the ones that I enjoy the most have the most intriguing heroes who fall hard for the heroine.
I literally could not stop reading this book. To this day, itās my favorite book by Kennedy Ryan.
It is an achy, angst-ridden novel that I couldnāt put down. Both Iris and August were compelling characters, and when they first met at the bar, their chemistry was undeniable. But Iris was in a relationship, and each time she and August met in the story, I could feel the longing.
The book covers tough subject matter involving domestic violence, and itās quite graphic. I skipped over the parts that were ātoo muchā and focused on the burgeoning relationship between Iris and August. He showed her in so many ways how much he loved her, and I spent the entire novel rooting for the happily ever after they both deserved.

I love novels that show female characters finding their way in life, and especially women who use writing to help themselves to grow and evolve. Finding my own voice through writing has been my way of staking my claim in the world. It hasnāt always been easy for us to tell our stories, but when we do, weāre made stronger and more complete. The protagonist of my novel The Literary Undoing of Victoria Swann fights hard to tell her own story. I know something about being held back by male-dominated expectations and Victoriaās situation could easily take place today. But when women writers finally find their voices, the works they create are of great value.
Lily KingāsWriters & Lovers is set in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1997, where my own novel takes place a century earlier. Itās a fictional coming-of-age story of a young woman who tries to write her way into adulthood.
Casey Peabody works as a waitress in Harvard Square, spends time with her aspiring writer friends, walks along the Charles River, and sits for hours at her desk trying to write, all of which I did in those same places at her same age and often with the same sense of longingāand which, incidentally, Victoria Swann does, too, albeit while wearing a floor-length skirt and using a fountain pen.
Casey, Victoria, and I, (and I assume Lily King herself), were not alone: so many people Iāve met over the years have spent time in their twenties hanging out around Harvard Square, anxious and waiting to become the grown-ups we hoped to be.ā¦

Many readers pick up books to escape reality, but I am passionate about reading stories where hope and healing can be found among the pages. I love depth and transparency. I love learning about history. As an author who ensures my books contain accurate biblical themes, I am always searching for books that are saturated with truth. Stories that will take me on an adventure and help me grow along with the characters. This list contains books that cover heavy topics, but they also infuse hope. I know that I have found encouragement through them!
A slow-burn story is great, but one mixed with regret and hope? Sign me up! I couldnāt imagine living through the trials and expectations that young ladies had to bear during the Regency era, but Julie gave me a pretty good glimpse through this English countryside window.
I felt compassion for some of these characters and anger toward others. The pain and betrayal felt so tangible that my own heart hurt. I feared for the life of more than one throughout the entire book, and I successfully cost a friend a good nightās sleep after recommending this one to her. I believe that the love and hope found in these pages can be found in real life, too.

Wondering why Iām such a fan of chosen families? I have a family of origin, but when I think of true family, itās not my siblings. Itās the people of my heart. My husband, my longtime editor, who I finally got smart enough to marry. A spiritual daughter in Boston; another in Kenya. A favorite ex-husband in Santa Fe. Another man who should've been my brother, and his beloved husband in Manhattan. For me, a real friend is someone whoād raze the State Department if I were stuck in a prison in Lima, Peru. Any one of these mentioned would. I always wanted a pseudonym so I write Boots & Boas under Vivienne Hartt Quinn.
My name is Greer Galloway, and I serve at the pleasure of the President of the United States.
When I was a girl, I received a warning: Keep your kisses to yourself.
Twice I ignored it, and twice my heart was utterly, miserably broken. I didnāt need to learn my lesson a third time. Instead, I swore off love forever.
But President Colchester hasn't sworn me offānot by a long shot.

Iāve always loved learning about the past. Whenever we travel for vacation, my family has become resigned to making a stop at a historical site, especially for Colonial America. It was no surprise to them that I set parts of my first published novel (and series) in 18th century North Carolina. Each novel on my book list is set in a different century and features ordinary people who, when thrown into extraordinary circumstances, respond with strength, courage, and grace. These historical āfish-out-of-waterā stories remind us how much people have changed across timeāand how theyāve stayed the same.
Until I watched the PBS/Masterpiece series Victoria, I hadnāt heard of the Chartists, a working-class group in Britain who were determined to improve their political influence. So when I stumbled across Longingāa book set against the backdrop of the Chartist Movement in Wales, the country of my ancestorsāI picked it up with greedy hands. An English lord travels to Wales to oversee his recent inheritance of land and mines. But Alexander is bewildered by the seething hostility from the local villagers and the ominous silence about their reasons. When he uncovers the poor working conditions in his mines, he patiently seeks to prove that he, too, feels a Longing for the beauty and charm of his adopted countryāand will do whatever it takes to make things right.
