I’m an author of over seventy romance books and have been a romance reader all my life. I think the first book I wrote (at the age of eight) featured a kiss. Yes, I was precocious, but in my defense, I was spying on my much older sister and her boyfriend at the time. My tender cheeks were so sore from smiling and laughing as I burned through this crazy funny rom-com, unable to put it down. I totally blame it on author Evie Alexander’s vividly hilarious and sexy banter. From the moment sassy Zoe and grumpy Rory (picture Thor in a kilt!) butt heads and battle over who’s the rightful owner of Scottish land, there are more slings and arrows flying than in Braveheart. I loved that the steamy inner monologues of this dual POV are as deliciously fun as the seductively playful dialogue behind this pair’s passionate slow burn.

I read this book in a feverishly short period of time, largely because Fishman´s writing never stopped surprising me. Her erotic story about Eve and her affairs with both men and women is complicated, messy, and real. I love how this book puts me into close identification with Eve, the contradictions in what she wants and what repels her, the tension between what she truly desires versus what she believes she “should” want.
I can't think of many novels that articulate the experience of bisexuals so accurately and with so much compassion, balancing social pressures and personal needs. It's a great book.

That means I often select novels, memoirs, and works of history that have compelling figures or an entertaining narrative. After more than twenty years of teaching, I’ve assigned many different books in my classes. These are the ones that my students enjoyed the most.
I find myself re-reading this book every few years. As someone who has visited Vietnam several times, I am particularly drawn to Greene’s vivid descriptions of the country in the early 1950s. The symbolism in the novel is not subtle: an older Brit and a younger American are rivals for the affection of a Vietnamese woman.
I find Greene’s depiction of Pyle, the American, to be especially striking: well-meaning but ultimately unaware of the damage he is doing to the country.
