The books I picked & why

Book cover of One

Arielle Ford Why did I love this book?

For me this is an unforgettable, compelling story about love, romance, and magic!

This book is a beautiful, metaphysical love story that opened my eyes to the possibilities of soulmates and that not only does love exists, but it can also be accessed through time travel, inter-dimensional travel, and leading multiple lives at once!

Reading it reinforced my belief that love never dies and that love is both pre-destined and has a free will component.

What is this book about?

I gave my life to become the person I am right now. Was it worth it?

Would we change if we knew what waits beyond space and time?

“With One, the ninth novel from the ever spiritual and imaginative author of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, [Richard] Bach continues his quest for a deeper understanding of human nature. . . . Although the elements of a great science fiction novel are present, the plot is secondary to the novel's theme of humanity's ability to control destiny”—The Boston Herald

Book cover of The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom

Arielle Ford Why did I love this book?

I was already familiar with two of the four agreements: “doing my best” and “keeping my word” but the idea of “never making assumptions,” and “not taking anything personally” were mind-blowing and they were a big gift to my nervous system.

I now understand that no one is waking up in the morning plotting ways to make me miserable and if I am miserable it is often because I took something personally or made a wrong assumption!

Book cover of Ishmael

Arielle Ford Why did I love this book?

This is a very original book with deep wisdom delivered through a most unique relationship about a man and the Gorilla who becomes his Guru!

One of the most life-changing concepts I took from the book is that there are two kinds of people in the world: leavers and takers. I recognized that I am essentially a taker, but the book made me realize that to be a better person it was time for me to become a leaver.

Book cover of The Dalai Lama's Cat

Arielle Ford Why did I love this book?

I’m a crazy cat lover and a lover of all things mystical so this book makes my heart purr.

It’s about His Holiness the Dalia Lama rescuing a starving and pitiful kitten he finds on a street in New Delhi and takes to his home in the Himalayas. This is a very sweet and warmhearted story told from the cat's bird eye view as she spies on his meetings with Hollywood celebrities, VIPs, and philanthropists.

It’s a through-the-back-door crash course in Buddhism.

What is this book about?

'In the months that followed I watched His Holiness working on a new book... I began to think that perhaps the time had come for me to turn my paws to a book of my own . . . one that tells my own tale . . . How I was rescued from a fate too grisly to contemplate, to become constant companion to a man who is not only one of the world's greatest spiritual leaders and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, but who is also a dab hand with the can opener.'
