J.M. Adams Why did I love this book?

If you thought the Cold War was over when the Berlin Wall came down, think again. My love of history and current events drew me into this book from the first page.

I was in Berlin when the Berlin Wall came down, so Nelson and Alex DeMille's book impacted me on multiple fronts. The comparisons and, more frighteningly, the similarities between Germany now and when the country was divided into East and West Germany blew my mind.

The Army CID tag team of Scott Brodie and Maggie Taylor keeps you tethered to reality as Berlin teeters on the brink of chaos. The story reinforces the notion that history never forgets, no matter how desperately the powers that be try to rearrange past events or erase them altogether.

Book cover of The 9th Man

J.M. Adams Why did I love this book?

Steve Berry's book couldn’t have been timed any better as 2023 was the 60th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination.

The pages flew by and kept me up late into the night. I have a history addiction, dating back to my early childhood, and the assassination of JFK has troubled and baffled me as far back as I can remember. The misinformation campaign set forth by the American government has never sat well with anyone who’s done the research, and this book presents the reader with a fresh scenario of what really happened back in November 1963 and the extent of the American coverup.

I’m always delighted to consume an entire library’s worth of new facts and information every time I open a Steve Berry novel.

My 3rd favorite read in 2023

Book cover of A Good House for Children

J.M. Adams Why did I love this book?

This is one of those books I end up reading in one sitting. It’s a psychological thriller that parallels the life and death struggles of two mothers trying to maintain their sanity and protect their children from a house that’s been preying on its victims since the 1800s.

The book provided me with new insights into the challenges of motherhood and how random people judge mothers.

What drew me in is the guilt that infects these mothers in their battle against dark forces and the stigma that the townspeople attach to the women who are doing their best in impossible circumstances. Perhaps the most upsetting aspect of the novel for me was the way that certain family members alienated the mothers during their time of need.
