Why am I passionate about this?

I adore heroes and stories that inspire me to live a life of virtue. As a child, I would stay up late reading about noble nights and the sins of evil. I believe every person is endowed with a yearning for all that is Good, True, and Beautiful. In a time when the zeitgeist is muddled with grimdark determinism, I’ve noticed wounds and cries for a life of virtue. Stories can inspire the good in us; thus, I am passionate about tales that fan flames of light in the hearts of their readers.

The books I picked & why

Book cover of Warbreaker

Izaic Yorks Why did I love this book?

I fell for this book like a leprechaun for gold. The world and characters are colorful, and the magic is based on color. From a sensational sensory standpoint, Warbreaker lifted my spirits to a magnificent place.

I am drawn to this book because of the wondrous world and storytelling that revolves around the true spirit of femininity. I love books that reach for the highest virtue of the noble spirit, and Warbreaker did not disappoint. We watch as the two heroines use the true power of femininity to draw out the best in masculinity forces, thus calling them to their destiny. Talk about a story that embraces the Good, the True, and the Beautiful.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, Warbreaker is the story of two sisters, who happen to be princesses, the God King one of them has to marry, the lesser god who doesn't like his job, and the immortal who's still trying to undo the mistakes he made hundreds of years ago.

Izaic Yorks Why did I love this book?

There are many books a reader works on, and yet few that work on the reader; J.R.R. Tolkien wrote such a book. I will be the first to admit I don’t love it, which makes it all the more profound. I finished it feeling inspired, uplifted, and believing in the Good.

It worked so powerfully in me that it did not matter what I thought of the book, my soul was touched by Tolkien's Magnus Opus. Watching the interplay between the fellowship, and the heroism of the ordinary man, inspired me to follow virtue and ignore the miasma of nihilism

Izaic Yorks Why did I love this book?

Rare are the books that pull at the strings of my heart and more so the ones able to keep me up past midnight. While I am only sharing one book the summation of this twelve-part series is a raw look at the heroics found in the ordinary and flawed man.

No, the main character is not technically ordinary but despite being the hero he is often outshone by other characters. This draws a clear connection between the ordinary reader and dear Fitz. We see a boy in this series grow into a man who endures and is an example of par excellence in bearing one's cross.

Is Fitz selfish and full of the sinful things of the heart, yes. Does he mess up? Yes. Does he serve and enable and inspire the noblest out of others? Yes.

Izaic Yorks Why did I love this book?

I tend to enjoy a pallet cleanser between the various epics that color the fantasy landscape. This book is the perfect remedy.

The novella is a quick read that is an inspiration of love. Its protagonist delights in the small things, and you see the world of wonder through the eyes of someone who is neurodivergent. Yes, this tale also deals with a tortured and troubled soul, yet it does not leave the world a darker place.

Book cover of The Sword of Shannara

Izaic Yorks Why did I love this book?

This book is a treasure that ignited and brought attention to the fantasy genre. There is a certain style to Terry Brooks, and yes it is similar to Tolkien, but it's refreshing, because (like Tolkien), this story focuses on wonder, miracles, and making the moral choice.

This tale is not about who wields the magic but about the effect it has when used by good or evil people. In an “ever-grey” world, it is a boon to remember that some choices are black and white.
