The books I picked & why

Book cover of Join the Rich Club

Marlies Hobbs Why did I love this book?

While this book is not aimed specifically at youth, it is a fantastic financial literacy resource for all ages.

It has clear and concise explanations and case studies to help readers fully understand the complex Australian financial system and how to best make it work for them. The author uses very relatable language, so it feels more like a conversation than a lecture.

I would recommend this book for people in their early to mid-20s and beyond.

Scott Paper is an enthusiastic and entertaining writer.

He has been involved in the financial industry as a financial commentator for many years and more recently as a financial counsellor. His book offers very simple and easy to follow steps to help people get a better hold of their finances with a practical and hands-on approach.

The book contains very important foundational knowledge which can then be built upon with more complex concepts, like those found in Join the Rich Club by Peter Switzer. I would recommend this book as a great starting point for people wanting to take charge of their financial future.

Book cover of Think and Grow Rich

Marlies Hobbs Why did I love this book?

Originally published in 1937, Think and Grow Rich has been referred to as the “Granddaddy of All Motivational Literature”.

Napoleon Hill is one of the most famous of all teachers of success who spent a fortune and the better part of a lifetime of effort to produce the "Law of Success" philosophy that forms the basis of his books and is powerfully summarized in this one. In his original version, Hill draws on stories of Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and other millionaires of his generation to illustrate his principles.

The updated version by Arthur R. Pell Ph.D., interweaves anecdotes of how contemporary millionaires and billionaires, such as Bill Gates, Mary Kay Ash, Dave Thomas, and Sir John Templeton, achieved their wealth, and outdated terminology and examples are refreshed for a new generation of readers.

This book is an historical masterpiece that everyone should read at least once in their lifetime, but ideally more.
