Rick R. Reed ❤️ loved this book because...

It went so far beyond being a great thriller and revenge tale, examining familial bonds, the acceptance of LGBTQ people, and how love can redeem.

My 2nd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of The Reformatory

Rick R. Reed ❤️ loved this book because...

A perfect read--well-drawn characters, a setting that was horrifying real, and a suspenseful story that easily kept me turning the pages. Add to these elements the fact that the book had a healthy dose of social commentary and I came away with an excellent read I'll remember for a long, long time.

My 3rd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Billy Summers

Rick R. Reed ❤️ loved this book because...

BILLY SUMMERS is one of King's very best...maybe even his best. It's a crime novel, a love story, a deep character portrait, and a close-up of what it's like to be a writer: its great rewards and sacrifices. The book touched me on a deep level and I read some of it through tears. Even though it's relatively long, I never felt bored or that events were being drawn out. This is the work of a writer at the pinnacle of his talent and it includes all of the many lessons he's learned over the years through crafting dozens of highly readable books. One note--this is NOT horror, (save for a nod to THE SHINING in one part). It's a serious and very entertaining novel. Highly recommended.

By Stephen King,

Why should I read it?

7 authors picked Billy Summers as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

Master storyteller Stephen King, whose “restless imagination is a power that cannot be contained” (The New York Times Book Review), presents an unforgettable and relentless #1 New York Times bestseller about a good guy in a bad job.

Chances are, if you’re a target of Billy Summers, two immutable truths apply: You’ll never even know what hit you, and you’re really getting what you deserve. He’s a killer for hire and the best in the business—but he’ll do the job only if the assignment is a truly bad person. But now, time is catching up with him, and Billy wants…

Silence of the Missing

By Rick R. Reed,

Book cover of Silence of the Missing

What is my book about?

He went into the woods…and never came out.

In 1986, thirteen-year-old Jeb Kleber vanished during his small town’s Fourth of July fireworks. His mysterious disappearance left his first love, Sammy Blake, grieving for years.

Flash forward to present day. A now middle-aged Sam Blake has a comfortable and predictable life with his husband Marc in Chicago. All that changes when a stranger arrives at Sam’s door, claiming to be the missing Jeb Kleber. The stranger knows things he couldn’t possibly know—including the hidden love the boys shared during the summer of ’86. He also wears an amethyst pendant Sam gave him shortly before he disappeared.

Could this be the real Jeb Kleber, missing for thirty-seven years? If not, who is this mysterious stranger? And what does he want after all this time? His appearance plunges Sam’s life into a nightmare of questionable identity, long-buried secrets, and perhaps even murder.
