Book cover of The Undoing Project: A Friendship That Changed Our Minds

Bonnie Kaplan ❤️ loved this book because...

I recall being so surprised when a psychologist named Daniel Kahneman received a Nobel prize for his research on decision-making. It made me really curious as to why decision-making would attract the attention of the Nobel committee. Then I saw that Michael Lewis (whose writing style is ALWAYS so compelling!) had written about Kahneman and his friend Amos Tversky......so I had to buy that book. I enjoyed it, and I learned from it.

Book cover of People Love Dead Jews: Reports from a Haunted Present

Bonnie Kaplan ❤️ loved this book because...

The title, of course, is a real grabber! And it turns out, Dara Horn is an amazing scholar who proves her point. It was an entirely new perspective for me......and this was before the Israeli catastrophe of Oct 7, 2023. But the lessons I learned from this book have helped me continue to see why the current 2024 surge in antisemitism is happening. This is a really important book, no matter what your own religion happens to be.

By Dara Horn,

Why should I read it?

2 authors picked People Love Dead Jews as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

Renowned and beloved as a prizewinning novelist, Dara Horn has also been publishing penetrating essays since she was a teenager. Often asked by major publications to write on subjects related to Jewish culture-and increasingly in response to a recent wave of deadly antisemitic attacks-Horn was troubled to realise what all of these assignments had in common: she was being asked to write about dead Jews, never about living ones. In these essays, Horn reflects on subjects as far-flung as the international veneration of Anne Frank, the mythology that Jewish family names were changed at Ellis Island, the blockbuster travelling exhibition…

Book cover of Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity

Bonnie Kaplan 👍 liked this book because...

I haven't even finished this book, because I keep returning to some of the material in the beginning -- to read and think about some more. The sub-sub title says it best: RETHINKING MEDICINE.......and that new perspective is not relevant ONLY to longevity. There is a lot of interesting information in this book that is relevant to overall human health.

By Peter Attia, Bill Gifford,

Why should I read it?

6 authors picked Outlive as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

This is the ultimate manual for longevity.

For all its successes, mainstream medicine has failed to make much progress against the diseases of ageing that kill most people: heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and type 2 diabetes. Too often, it intervenes with treatments too late, prolonging lifespan at the expense of quality of life. Dr Peter Attia, the world's top longevity expert, believes we must replace this outdated framework with a personalised, proactive strategy for longevity.

This isn't 'biohacking,' it's science: a well-founded strategic approach to extending lifespan while improving our physical, cognitive and emotional health, making each decade better…

The Better Brain: Overcome Anxiety, Combat Depression, and Reduce ADHD and Stress with Nutrition

By Bonnie Kaplan, Julia J. Rucklidge,

Book cover of The Better Brain: Overcome Anxiety, Combat Depression, and Reduce ADHD and Stress with Nutrition

What is my book about?

This book, co-written with Professor Julia J Rucklidge, teaches us all WHY what we consume is so very important. It is written by two scientists (who have contributed significantly to the research on nutrition and brain health), and it is written for the general public. There are lots of stories and anecdotes, as well as an overview of the critical research from the last 25 years.
