Blind Faith has a
complex interwoven plot that captured my interest from page one.
Each plot piece was a story in itself, and the interconnections provided the correct
mix of intrigue and foreshadowing. My interest was stoked, and I wanted to see
the resolution that brought all of the elements together.
The book is set between Montana and Oregon,
states I have only spent a few days in. Reading this book provided an
understanding of the people who live in these states and a feel for
daily life. The descriptions were so vivid I could picture every scene in my
mind. Yet these details were filtered throughout the story, so I did not
feel I was receiving a geography lesson.
Long-buried secrets come back with a vengeance in a cold case gone red-hot in Agatha Award-winning author Alicia Beckman’s second novel, perfect for fans of Laura Lippman and Greer Hendricks.
For decades, the unsolved murder of Father Michael Leary has haunted Billings, Montana, the community he served. Who summoned the priest late one autumn night, then left his body in a sandstone gully for the ravens and other wild scavengers?
And it’s haunted no one more than Lindsay Keller, who admired and confided in him as a teenager. Compelled by his example to work for justice, she became a prosecutor.…
With Our Blessing
is a mystery within a culture war and a political minefield.
The police strive
to determine the perpetrator of the crime and become entangled in secrets from
Ireland and the Catholic Church that have been buried for generations. As the plot unfolds, so do the character's
motivations and back story.
For the officers, their family history and
upbringing reveal the internal biases they must subvert to do their job as
police. From the nuns and priests, the reader gains an understanding of the
culture of living in a closed community and following centuries-old doctrines.
As a person who was raised Catholic, the characters' struggles to protect their heritage yet uncover a killer
kept me turning the pages.

This is the epitome of a
cozy mystery. There are quirky characters, a reluctant protagonist, and a dog.
I
read cozies for the same reason I write them. I want an engaging story, an
intricate plot, and no blood or gore on the page. Valerie Burns achieves this
and adds an extra helping of laugh-out-loud humor.
I
believe that dogs play a very important role in our lives. Maddie, the
protagonist, enters into her ownership of Baby, a Great Dane, with reluctance,
but by the end of the book, they will be inseparable.
My
one warning to the reader, you will be craving fresh baked goods as you read.
“Snappy dialogue, a well-drawn supporting cast and an irresistible canine companion all add delicious flavor. Gulp this book down or savor it, but consuming it will guarantee a sustained sugar high.”– The New York Times Book Review
