Book cover of The Undoing Project: A Friendship That Changed Our Minds

Dan Passarelli Why did I love this book?

This was a fascinating book that told the interesting story of the brilliant minds that pioneered behavioral economics. Even aside from the actual psychological concepts discussed, the story itself was great.

I found the part about the pushback from the more classically trained University of Chicago-type economists that the early behavioral economists got to be something I wouldn’t have thought would have been the case. The book also provided many examples that introduced the world of how behavioral economists think to me.

It’s a wonderful read for anyone interested in psychology or economics.

Book cover of Misbehaving: The Making of Behavioral Economics

Dan Passarelli Why did I love this book?

Anyone who has ever studied economics really only got part of, and a biased part of, the story.

I enjoyed reading about the pioneering work Richard Thaler, and other early behavioral economists did on how human minds actually work in the real world and not just in economic theory.

Learning about specific use cases and specific examples of the work Thaler created has made me think differently about economics, investing, and trading. In a lot of ways, it has been a complete game-changer for me. It really blew my mind.

By Richard H. Thaler,

Why should I read it?

1 author picked Misbehaving as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

Nobel laureate Richard H. Thaler has spent his career studying the radical notion that the central agents in the economy are humans-predictable, error-prone individuals. Misbehaving is his arresting, frequently hilarious account of the struggle to bring an academic discipline back down to earth-and change the way we think about economics, ourselves, and our world.

Traditional economics assumes rational actors. Early in his research, Thaler realized these Spock-like automatons were nothing like real people. Whether buying a clock radio, selling basketball tickets, or applying for a mortgage, we all succumb to biases and make decisions that deviate from the standards of…

My 3rd favorite read in 2023…

Book cover of Buffettology

Dan Passarelli Why did I love this book?

This book laid out for me the system Warren Buffett and other great minds use to analyze investments.

I thought it was a great introduction that took me into being able to practically not just think about how to analyze investment opportunities but to actually do it—to actually use the information I gleaned from the book. One of the big picture takeaways was to think of a stock as if it is a bond.

I learned a ton from this book. It truly opened up new doors in my mind to how I think about investments in general.

By Mary Buffett, David Clark,

Here at last is a book that reveals what the public really wants to know about this legendary investor: how he determines where he puts his money. From a team with privileged insight, Mary Buffett, a savvy CEO and Warren Buffett's former daughter-in-law, and David Clark, a successful portfolio analyst, comes Buffettology, the most detailed explanation ever of the billionaire's unique investment techniques. Using Warren Buffett's system to access a company's potential economic excellence and the right price to pay for its stock, Buffettology demonstrates the actual mathematical models and equations, revolving around three variables: the yearly per share earnings…
