Book cover of Show Me Betrayal

Susan Page Davis Why did I love this book?

I loved Liesl, the main character, who wouldn’t give up trying to find out why her aunt died. I also love the little town of Mexico, Missouri.

We jump back sixty years to something that happened to Aunt Suzanne when she was a teenager, and learn that, like Liesl, she had tried to solve a murder. Are the two deaths connected? You can bet Liesl will ferret out the truth, no matter what! I can’t wait for the next book in this series to release.

What is this book about?

Two deaths occur decades apart. Is it possible these deaths are related? What motivates a killer, who got away with murder sixty years ago, to kill again? Was it uncontrollable rage or the hope of silencing someone who fit all the puzzle pieces together and deduced who committed the crime?

Set in the picturesque town of Mexico, Missouri, Show Me Betrayal takes flight in words and emotions of rich characters woven together into a story you won’t want to put down.

Book cover of Murder at the Mayfair Hotel

Susan Page Davis Why did I love this book?

I love historical mysteries, and the Cleopatra Fox Mysteries series by C.J. Archer was a wonderful find for me this year.

Cleo is the “poor relation” of a wealthy London family who are owners of a swanky hotel. After her grandmother’s death, she goes to live in the Mayfair Hotel with them and meets all kinds of fascinating people. It’s December 1899, and a huge New Year’s Eve ball will be held at the hotel.

When a guest is poisoned on Christmas Eve, the hotel’s reputation and financial stability are in danger. That’s where Cleo comes in. She won’t be satisfied until she learns the truth. I found this series in June, and my husband and I have already read the first six. Book 7 is on pre-order.

What is this book about?

It was the most fashionable place to stay in London, until murder made a reservation. Solve the puzzle in this new cozy historical mystery from USA Today bestselling author of the Glass and Steele series.

December 1899. After the death of her beloved grandmother, Cleopatra Fox moves into the luxury hotel owned by her estranged uncle in the hopes of putting hardship and loneliness behind her. But the poisoning of a guest on Christmas Eve throws her new life, and the hotel, into chaos.

Cleo quickly realizes no one can be trusted, not Scotland Yard and especially not the hotel’s…

My 3rd favorite read in 2023

Book cover of The London Rose

Susan Page Davis Why did I love this book?

This Regency romance feels much like a Georgette Heyer book, and I used to devour Heyer’s stories.

Widow Rose Audeley and her grown son are enjoying their quiet country home when a desperate young woman knocks on the door and begs Rose for sanctuary. The story is light and fun, and I loved it. I first read it on Vella, but it’s now available as a Kindle e-book, a paperback, and an audiobook. If you like Regency romance, I recommend Rosanne E. Lortz!

What is this book about?

A handsome earl. A trip to London. But is this Derbyshire widow ready to give up her independence for a second chance at romance?

An homage to the inimitable Georgette Heyer, this clean and wholesome Regency romance follows the adventures and exploits of a sensible widow, a managing earl, an absent-minded botanist, a high-strung heiress, a coldhearted guardian, and a villainous kidnapper.

New neighbors, cryptic Christmas cards, and jury duty. What next? Campbell McBride is juggling her new role as a private investigator with her slightly wacky personal life.
