What if a witch, a vampire, and a Fairy walk into a bar, all having quit their job to start a detective agency, and you get this book? I loved the pacing, the characters, all of it!
The female lead character, Rachel, is just one of the funniest characters. I loved how she was A-okay with going around the legal system in the ways she did to trip up her target was just fun.
From K.'s list on strong female leads who might be morally gray.
The characters that Kim Harrison develops in this first in series are urban fantasy at its best. They’re jaded, in need of coffee, and just want to pay the rent.
The interpersonal relationships and how the characters have each other’s backs while getting on each other’s nerves make for great dialogue and super engaging storylines.

I love this book. I love the whole series if I am being honest. This book was the first modern-day paranormal book I ever read, and the imagery within has rung with me to this day.
Who starts a book with a Leprechaun being arrested down outside of a coffee show? Kim Harrison does. The idea of a werewolf wearing a business suit or an elf being a scientist just tickles me to no end. We always assume that science and technology destroy magic, but in The Hollow, magic is alive right alongside science.

I inhaled this series when it first came out and I can’t wait to re-read it all again.
Kim Harrison builds a fully realized world with paranormal characters that felt fresh and exciting. The protagonist Rachel is a spitfire, hot-mess, take no shit heroine who is constantly getting herself into trouble that she has to fight her way out of.
Super fun and sexy!

I have not read this book in ages, but I would read it over again in a second. The MC Rachel is a kick-ass paranormal bounty hunter reining in the law-breaking supernature creatures for a government agency. I love the humor and her interactions with the secondary characters, and they only get better as the series goes on. The relationship between demon Al and Rachel is an especially fun one, though book one is just Al’s introduction.
*Note: Last I heard, the kindle edition has formatting & editing issues not present in the hard copy I read.

A hybrid demon witch? Bring it on! Flawed and determined that is Rachel Morgan in a nutshell. Did I mention she has a wisecracking pixie as a sidekick and a demon mentor named Al? Yes, she does and I love her for it. Rachel Morgan has grown so much from Dead Witch Walking the first book in the series to Million Dollar Demon the latest installment. Rachel survived Rosewood Syndrome a disease that should have killed her but due to a questionable intervention that made her a demon she has embraced her demonic side and is kicking butt. Her sarcastic…

I didn’t want to ignore witches in my list, and Rachel Morgan is my all-time favorite. A skilled spell, charm, and curse caster, Rachel is also tasked with the job of bounty hunter. Cincinnati, Ohio must be protected, after all. I love Rachel’s never-give-up attitude, her compassionate nature, and her constant ability to say the wrong thing to the wrong creature and still find a way to survive the repercussions. There’s always plenty of action, seriously dangerous villains, and a variety of supernatural personalities, including vampires, pixies, and a demon you can’t get enough of. I’ve followed Rachel’s journey through…

Kim Harrison’s The Hollows series is set in a world where demons, vampires, pixies, witches, and other magical creatures are real. She incorporates these characters into a world that has been devastated by a virus that brought the human population equal with the supernatural. In Dead Witch Walking we are introduced to Rachel Morgan, a witch that decides to leave her job with the supernatural police force and go out on her own as an independent bounty hunter. Now she’s dodging attempts on her life as she tries to pay the rent.
