Matthew Becker Author Of Run

From my list on thrillers to make your heart thump.

Why am I passionate about this?

I have read thrillers for as long as I can remember reading adult novels. I can chart my life of reading from Robert Parker to David Baldacci to Jeffery Deaver and todayā€™s luminaries such as Sarah Pekkanen, Mary Kubica, and all the authors listed below. While I love a good beach or airport read, the novels that stick with youā€”that make you want to clear your schedule because you need to sit and think about what youā€™ve just readā€”are my favorites.

A traumatizing incident that brings teens together, only to be rehashed years later when one of them goes missing during a storm in a secluded location? Megan Mirandaā€™s book hits every mark for a must-read thriller.

I loved the weaved flashbacks, hinting at what happened without giving the full story, even until the end. Knowing enough about who survivedā€”and who must not haveā€”made every flashback fraught with foreboding tension. One of the things I love most in a book is when the story seems complete, and then one tiny extra detail is revealed, completely changing how you think.

I felt like I was there, both in the present at the Outer Banks beach house and in the past, on the banks of the river after the horrible bus crash.

Marlee Bush Author Of When She Was Me

From my list on books with untrustworthy sibling relationships.

Why am I passionate about this?

I have been absolutely entranced by complicated family dynamics and sibling relationships as long as I can remember. Particularly as they exist within the thriller space. I graduated with a degree in criminal justice which only fueled that fire as I learned so much more about psychology, the human mind, and the depths of human depravity. It was so natural for me to start exploring it in my own reading and writing.

Marlee Bush Why did Marlee love this book?

I loved this book because reading it was a lot like watching a movie. The way Gleeson writes, you can picture it playing out on a screen in your head.

I absolutely flew through the chapters of this twin story with my heart in my throat. It felt so cinematic, dramatic, and knife-sharp. Plus, one of my favorite parts of a good thriller, the plot twist really got me.

Charlotte Stevenson Author Of The Serial Killer's Son

From my list on plot twists that will leave your jaw on the floor.

Why am I passionate about this?

For years, I have been a voracious reader of dark psychological thrillers and psychological horror. I read several books every week, and Iā€™m always overjoyed to be knocked sideways by an ingenious twist in a book. As a doctor, I am captivated by people and fascinated by the depths of the human mind. For me, humans are the scariest monsters of them all. In 2020, I decided to have a pop at writing a jaw-dropper myself, and my book was born. I only hope you donā€™t see that twist coming!

Freida is the queen of twists, in my opinion, and this is my absolute favorite of hers. I was completely gripped and itā€™s one of the only books Iā€™ve ever read in one sitting.

Iā€™ll always remember reading this book because about two thirds of the way through I was convinced I had it all figured out only to have the rug completely pulled out from under me. As an avid thriller reader, I find that a twist rarely blows me away quite as much as this one did. Brilliant.

Have you ever read a book and thoughtā€”what did I just read? Well, this is that book for me. I loved the entire cast filled with deranged and disturbed characters. I love my thrillers, dark and creepy, and this one definitely checks that box.

I loved this book because not only was there a completely shocking and surprising ending, but there was also an utterly jaw-dropping twist partway through that had me questioning everything. I still think about this book most days, and for me, thatā€™s a sign of a cracking thriller.
