I read this book because I loved Fire Keeper’s Daughter. Boulley’s writing is gripping. Her characters are fully realized, and her fast-moving plots are unpredictable.

I have a middle-grade novel in production that is about my great-grandfather (Dakota/Ojibwe ancestry, born and raised in the Minnesota territory). While writing the book, I read every middle-grade and YA novel I could find by native writers.

Like Boulley’s first book, Firekeeper's Daughter, Warrior Girl Unearthed reminds me, in a good way, of the need in this country to ensure that everyone understands the atrocities that have been committed against the indigenous and people of color. And that is why this book is another must-read to me.

Boulley does an excellent job of creating real people with universal problems as well as problems specific to their culture that we must all come to understand.
