Why am I passionate about this?

Passionate military members are my jam, and I feel pretty confident writing about them. First, I write erotic romance myself, giving me something of an inside view of what makes a good erotic romance with a military vibe. Second, I read a lot of them. Even if the story is a mite slow, you’ve got that alpha military guy who’s going to pull the story out. Or at least, that’s the way it’s worked in every military erotic romance I’ve read. Last, as I mentioned earlier, I was raised in the Navy. I’ve seen lots of men in uniform and the sight never fails to give me a thrill. I think I recognize that passion when I see it.

The books I picked & why

Book cover of Veiled Heat

Dee S. Knight Why did I love this book?

Leigh Wynfield has written a whole series of Heat books, but I particularly liked Veiled Heat. The heroine is a strong woman but she’s in the doghouse, sent to a group of misfits and led by an arrogant jerk. Who she can’t seem to get enough of. I love romance books and if steam is thrown in as part of the plot, even better. Leigh’s writing is strong and her plots are solid. I’d never really read sci-fi until I picked up one of Leigh’s books. Got hooked!

Hold on to your heart! This is a super hot Heat Series story.

Demoted and tossed into the farthest reaches of the universe, Trooper Callie Justice finds herself surrounded by the Ventura’s crew of slackers, dimwits and delinquents. The depressing realization that her career is over, combined with her uncontrollable lust for the ship’s sexy captain, confirms it—she’s losing her mind.

Book cover of Deadly Deception

Dee S. Knight Why did I love this book?

Deadly Deception is not technically about a member of the military, but Jonathan O’Halleran is guided in his actions by his recent time in the SEALs, so I say it counts. This book is fast action as Jonathan seeks a traitor who is responsible for bringing death to his family. Very steamy, so you know I liked it! Really good writing, which is always something I look for.

A warrior devastated by an unimaginable loss …

Navy SEAL Jonathan O’Halleran’s world is upended by tragic loss. Civilian life as a single father and hunting down the traitor responsible for bringing death to his family’s doorstep are only temporary distractions from his grief, anger, and guilt.

A tough as hell woman who doesn’t know how to trust …

Andréa Swain is a brilliant, stubborn NSA Interrogations Tactics Specialist with serious daddy issues. She is yanked from the front lines in Afghanistan and ordered to work with a surly Navy SEAL who blames her for his friend’s death.

Book cover of Night with a SEAL

Dee S. Knight Why did I love this book?

Another SEAL. Are you detecting a pattern here? What can I say? They’re strong in mind and body. True alpha men. This is an action novel when Jon Rudnick comes home to the woman he had a one-night stand with just before shipping off for Afghanistan. She’s in danger and who’s better to ride into the rescue. This book portrays the Navy a little more realistically by showing the government red tape to screw things up. As a Navy brat, I can vouch for the fact that the military is not always the easiest to deal with. Still, who doesn’t love it, and the steamy romances inspired by it?

Book cover of Into the Storm

Dee S. Knight Why did I love this book?

Okay, I admit it. I could have chosen any of Suzanne Brockmann’s books with her SEALs. I started reading her books many years ago and stayed with her SEALS until the original team started getting out of the Navy. I’m not sure I’d say her books are erotic, but they are plenty steamy. In this book, the SEALs are playing war games in New Hampshire. What could go wrong? Well, they could lose their pretend hostage… Love, lots of fighting, and plenty of sexy action in this book!

Book cover of Naughty Heroes: In And Out Of Uniform

Dee S. Knight Why did I love this book?

Sometimes I don’t have time for my steamy military fixes. In those cases, I like to read novellas or even short stories. Naughty Heroes is just that. Sitting in the doctor’s office (free, guilt-free reading time), I can get through at least one of these sexy stories. Have just half an hour to yourself at lunch? One of these tales will fit neatly into that time frame. I like killing two birds with one stone if it means I can enjoy a naughty Marine at break time…

Naval Maneuvers

By Dee S. Knight,

Book cover of Naval Maneuvers

What is my book about?

Love and romance involving men and women of the armed forces are pretty much like they are for everyone else. Except, well, there is that uniform. And the hard-to-resist attraction of "duty, honor, and service" as they might be applied to a woman. All things considered, romance among the military is a pretty sexy, compelling force for which (maybe) you'd better be armed.

Why am I passionate about this?

In a previous career, I traveled extensively to many parts of the world. I always found new cultures, old traditions, strange languages, and exotic environments fascinating. Perhaps even more fascinating, were the expats I found who had traded in their home country for an existence far from where they were born and different from how they were reared. In many instances, I’ve attempted to incorporate—in Heinlein’s words—this stranger in a strange land motif in my work. It always seems to heighten my interest. I hope the reader’s as well.
