Book cover of Not the Plan

Timothy A. Terra ❤️ loved this book because...

Not the Plan dives deeply into two main points of focus. The first, external, with the inner-workings of the world of politics. The second, internal, talking about Borderline Personality Disorder and the effects of growing up with a parent suffering from mental illness. In both cases, the author manage to explain concepts in a clear way without it feeling artificial or like she's trying to hold the reader by the hand. The story and the characters are very enjoyable and are not defined by the aforementioned themes, but are simply going their own way while dealing with it.

A very touching story from a rather unusual angle that only makes it richer.

My 2nd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Blood Song

Timothy A. Terra ❤️ loved this book because...

The first book of Blood Song is something the author has spent years on before publishing it, and it shows. The world-building is sturdy and well thought-out, yet the author avoids the trap of going "bragging mode" and spending more time talking about every detail of the world rather than focusing on the story. Speaking of the story, the characters are very vivid and interesting, keeping you close and making you root for them all-heartedly. The mysteries that go beyond their understanding are sprinkled in just the right amount, keeping you entertained without frustrating you from seeing the characters being confused by what eludes them.

A very dynamic action-packed first book that makes you want to know what happens next.

Book cover of Path of Destruction: A Novel of the Old Republic

Timothy A. Terra ❤️ loved this book because...

A good old story of an underdog rising against the odds and learning all he can to survive the challenges thrown at his life. I enjoyed this story a lot for the gripping plot and for the author facing full-on the ruthlessness of historical times, especially when it came to those in power.
