My favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Streetlight People

Stacy Stokes ❤️ loved this book because...

I love time travel stories, and Streetlight People had an utterly unique take on it. That, combined with an increasing sense of doom and tightly plotted narrative kept me racing to flip the pages. But it was the ending that made me fall in love with the book--the last 50 pages had my jaw on the floor. I definitely did not see any of it coming!

By Charlene Thomas,

Why should I read it?

1 author picked Streetlight People as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it. This book is for kids age 14, 15, 16, and 17.

What is this book about?

A little bit Twin Peaks, a little bit Black Mirror, Streetlight People is a story of growing up in-and out of-a small town with a huge secret.

For most, Streetlight is a dot on the map you pass on your way to somewhere else. But if you live there, you're either a Have-Not, like Kady, or a Have-Lot like her boyfriend, Nik, who also happens to be a member of the exclusive social club, The IV Boys.

Known for their powerful families and the coveted ball they host for a selective guest list, The IV Boys have always refused to…

My 2nd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Under This Red Rock

Stacy Stokes ❤️ loved this book because...

Mindy McGinnis can do no wrong in my eyes, but UNDER THIS RED ROCK took my love of her to a whole new level. Neely is quite possibly the best unreliable character I've ever read. Her delusions and hallucinations have you questioning everything. And just when you think you have it all figured out--boom! You get sucker punched with an ending that makes you want to read the whole thing again.

Why should I read it?

1 author picked Under This Red Rock as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it. This book is for kids age 14, 15, 16, and 17.

What is this book about?

From award-winning author Mindy McGinnis comes a mesmerizing YA psychological mystery following a teen girl who is grappling with the death of her brother as she starts a new job in the caverns of Ohio-only to become the number one suspect in her coworker's murder. Perfect for fans of Courtney Summers and Kathleen Glasgow.

Neely's monsters don't always follow her rules, so when the little girl under her bed, the man in her closet, and the disembodied voice that shadows her every move become louder, she knows she's in trouble. With a history of mental illness in her family and…

My 3rd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of The Writing Retreat

Stacy Stokes ❤️ loved this book because...

I've been to many writing retreats so I loved reading a story set in writing retreat hosted by a famous author. But what I loved even more was the absolutely twisted mind of the author who turned that writing retreat into a literal nightmare--it also made me scream "why didn't I think of that!" It was a blast to read from start to finish.

The Darkness Rises

By Stacy Stokes,

Book cover of The Darkness Rises

What is my book about?

A gripping speculative thriller perfect for fans of Lauren Oliver and Ginny Myers Sain, about one girl with the power to see death before it happens--and the terrible consequences she faces when saving someone goes wrong.

SOMEONE WANTS REVENGE…

Whitney knows what death looks like. Since she was seven, she’s seen it hover over strangers’ heads in dark, rippling clouds. Sometimes she can save people from the darkness. Sometimes she can’t. But she’s never questioned if she should try. Until the unthinkable happens—and a person she saves becomes the perpetrator of a horrific school shooting.

Now Whitney will do anything to escape the memory of last year’s tragedy and the guilt that gnaws at her for her role in it. Even if that means quitting dance—the thing she loves most—and hiding her ability from her family and friends. But most importantly, no one can know what really happened last year.

Then Whitney finds an ominous message in her locker and realizes someone knows her secret. As the threats pile up, one thing becomes clear—someone wants payback for what she did. And if she’s going to survive the year, she must track down whoever is after her before it’s too late.
