Book cover of Antifragile: Things That Gain from Disorder

Shelle Rose Charvet 👍 liked this book because...

Once you get passed the extreme arrogance of the author, who knows everything, he actually has some great insights about how to think about your life. He eschews "resilience", which means you get knocked down and get up again, for being "antifragile", a way of living that means hardships make you stronger.
He gives great examples what and how to do this.
Well worth the read.

🐌 It was slow at times

By Nassim Nicholas Taleb,

Why should I read it?

3 authors picked Antifragile as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

'Really made me think about how I think' - Mohsin Hamid, author of Exit West

Tough times don't last. Tough people do.

In The Black Swan, Taleb showed us that highly improbable and unpredictable events underlie almost everything about our world. Here Taleb stands uncer tainty on its head, making it desirable, even necessary. The antifragile is beyond the resilient or robust. The resil ient resists shocks and stays the same; the antifragile gets better and better.

Just as human bones get stronger when subjected to stress and tension, many things in life benefit from stress, disorder, volatility, and turmoil.…

Book cover of The Whisper on the Night Wind: The True History of a Wilderness Legend

Shelle Rose Charvet ❤️ loved this book because...

The author takes you with him on a canoe ride in dangerous territory in central Labrador (Canada), hunting down an old mystery. You feel as though you are there with him and his companion in the deep woods, paddling upstream on huge rushing rivers, and surviving the waves of insects determined to devour him.
It's a once in a lifetime journey that I felt as though I lived with him, getting to know a territory, I will probably never get to visit.

NATIONAL BESTSELLER

Spellbinding adventure from Canada's most beloved modern-day explorer.

Traverspine is not a place you will find on most maps. A century ago, it stood near the foothills of the remote Mealy Mountains in central Labrador. Today it is an abandoned ghost town, almost all trace of it swallowed up by dark spruce woods that cloak millions of acres.

In the early 1900s, this isolated little settlement was the scene of an extraordinary haunting by large creatures none could identify. Strange tracks were found in the woods. Unearthly cries were heard in the night. Sled dogs went missing. Children…
