I am a huge Amor Towles fan! The setting 1930’s NYC—jazz and flappers, cigarette holders and cocktail shakers, possibility, debauchery, and a smart, sassy, gutsy gal like Katey Kontent deserves a huge, buckle-up and enjoy the ride story and Towes delivers! I couldn’t wait and didn’t want it to end.

Book cover of Ahab's Wife: Or, The Star-Gazer: A Novel

Kelly Bennett 👍 liked this book because...

It took Sena Jeter Naslund to imagine the resourceful Una, and create for her an epic journey from Kentucky cabin to lighthouse, high seas adventure, high drama and ferocious love—a life that would touch on and be touched by religious zeal, slavery, whaling, suffragettes, astronomy and longing and redemption—never resignation.

2 authors picked Ahab's Wife as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

From the opening line--"Captain Ahab was neither my first husband nor my last"--you will know that you are in the hands of a masterful storyteller and in the company of a fascinating woman hero. (Newsday)

The daughter of a tyrannical father, Una leaves the violent Kentucky frontier for the peace of a New England lighthouse island, where she simultaneously falls in love with two…
