Book cover of Milky Way Railroad

Celine Rose Mariotti Why did I love this book?

I love to read books by Japanese authors. This one was special as the young boy Kenji boards this magical train with one of his friends, Minoru. This magical train takes him on a journey to the stars and Heaven, where he meets a lot of people.

Reading this book made me wish I could go on a magical train to a journey to Heaven, where I could once again see my Dad and Uncle and my grandparents and have a marvelous journey. It made me happy to imagine that.

It was an emotional story-magical and mystical. Kenji returns home, and the professor tells him his father is coming home, and Kenji is happy. This is a book that kept me reading and dreaming.

By Kenji Miyazawa, Ryu Okazaki (illustrator), Joseph Sigrist (translator) , D.M. Stroud (translator)

What is this book about?

One night, alone on a hilltop, a young boy is swept aboard a magical train bound for the Milky Way. A classic in Japan, this tender fable is a book of great wisdom, offering insight into the afterlife. One of Japan's greatest storytellers, Kenji Miyazawa (1896-1933) was a teacher, author, poet, and scientist.

My 2nd favorite read in 2023

Book cover of Murder, She Wrote: Design For Murder

Celine Rose Mariotti Why did I love this book?

I love watching the TV show Murder, She Wrote. When I discovered they had written books based on the popular TV show starring Angela Lansbury, I bought this book.

The character of Sandy Black, also known by his new fashion name Xandr Ebon, reminded me so much of myself. He was struggling to make it as a fashion designer, to get his line out there for people to see. It rang true for me as I have had a long road to getting my work published till success finally came. I could totally commiserate with him.

Jessica Fletcher, of course, solved the murder mystery. And Xandr’s Mom supported him just like my Mom believes in me and my writing.

KILLER COUTURE

Jessica is in Manhattan to attend the debut of new designer Xandr Ebon—formerly Sandy Black of Cabot Cove. He’s introducing his evening wear collection to the public and—more important—to the industry’s powers that be: the stylists, magazine editors, buyers, and wealthy clientele who can make or break him.

At the show, the glitz and glamour are dazzling until a young new model shockingly collapses and dies. Natural causes? Perhaps. But when…

My 3rd favorite read in 2023

Book cover of Safe Harbor

Celine Rose Mariotti Why did I love this book?

I totally enjoyed this story because not only do I love a good mystery but I also love the strong family (as that’s important to me). Also, the story takes place in Connecticut, where I’ve lived all my life. Not many authors use Connecticut for their settings, so that made me happy to read a book set in my state.

It starts with Dana Underhill returning home to Hubbard Point when her sister and brother-in-law are killed in a boating accident. She becomes the guardian of her two nieces and meets up with her childhood friend, Sam Trevor, who is now a marine biologist. He helps her and her nieces solve the mystery of what happened to her sister and brother-in-law.

Already an expert sailor herself, Quinn harbours dark suspicions about what happened to her parents, and is convinced their deaths at…

What is my book about?

Celine Rose Mariotti has a new ghost story, one that will make you believe in the hereafter. George Bowman, a country singer and banjo player, had passed away after being very sick. His wife, Melinda, was left alone.

A couple of months after George’s passing, Melinda heard the banjo playing, and there in the loft was George playing his banjo. This was the beginning of many appearances by George. Each time he asked Melinda for a favor. She was sent on a quest to look through his papers for insurance policies, contracts with his record company, lyrics to his songs, and other things he asked her to do.
