Why read it?

24 authors picked Fourth Wing as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

I'm going to start this off by saying I don't think this is necessarily a bad read, it just wasn't my cup of tea. I struggled to get into this book, but I was committed to finishing it since so many friends had read the book and loved it. By the 5-hour mark of the audiobook, I was debating DNFing but decided to just power on. I don't think I started getting invested in this read until about the halfway mark. This book is full of a lot of popular romance tropes like enemies to lovers, forced proximity, slow burn,…

If you are in the mood for a fantasy series filled with dragons and their intrepid riders, I would strongly urge you to give Rebecca Yarros's series a read. Creative, imaginative, and sensual these books delve into a world of dragon riders wannabes who must somehow become the last defense against the forces of evil. However, if explicit sex is not your cup of tea, I would suggest you opt for another series.

I appreciated the fast pace nature and how the twists were not always what I expected. The magic/dragons system was also fun.

Book cover of To be a Fae Queen

To be a Fae Queen By Tricia Copeland, Jo Michaels (editor), Jennifer Oberth (editor)

After losing her brothers, Titania studied and trained to rule Aubren. But she hadn’t planned on becoming Queen at fifteen. Now with her reign challenged from within the castle walls, she must decide what is best for her kingdom. Should another rule in her stead? Or has fate led her…

Such a great romantasy-- I heard people talking about it and loved the world-building, the character development, and the romance at the heart of the story.

Loved Violet’s character, the underdog winning against the odds

Dragons, great characters (including the dragons!), plot twists and political machinations. Did I mention dragons?
Sucks you in to its amazing fantasy world and makes it completely believable. There's wit and drama, tension aplenty, and several plot twists that will leave you breathless.
I enjoyed it so much I moved straight on to the sequel, 'Iron Flame'. Book 3, 'Onyx Storm' is due out in January 2025 and I'm gasping to find out what happens next.

Book cover of An Heir of Realms

An Heir of Realms By Heather Ashle,

An Heir of Realms tells the tale of two young heroines—a dragon rider and a portal jumper—who fight dragon-like parasites to save their realms from extinction.

Rhoswen is training as a Realm Rider to work with dragons and burn away the Narxon swarming into her realm. Rhoswen’s dream is to…

This book is good. This might get me crucified, but I do think there are things that could have been done better. I would have liked to see more with Xaden’s crew, possibly even Xaden himself. I would have liked the underlying mystery to be more prevalent instead of just sort of jumping in at necessary places. (Violet is supposed to be the smart one, so I feel she could have been more focused on things that were odd)
Don’t get me wrong. This book is good. I liked it very much. I will be reading the others as well.…

Lots of action, twists, and worldbuilding and the dragons were amazing. I really liked the dragon-human interactions and the different signets. I enjoyed the characters as well.

This book has all the yummy feels of a good romance/fantasy adventure. I don't read fantasy – and yet this sucked me in and wouldn't let me go. Pacing was on point, characters grew, plot was plausible.

I was worried this book had too much hype and would let me down, but it was (simply put) an engrossing, fun read and I loved the world the author created. It's like Yarros took bits and pieces of every dystopian and fantasy story I love and put into one book. It was easy to read, which is is why it appeals to so many readers (in my opinion). It's one of those books you can binge and feel like you're getting a delicious treat.
