My 2nd favorite read in 2024…

Book cover of Fourth Wing

Lindsey Pogue I ❤️ loved this book because...

I was worried this book had too much hype and would let me down, but it was (simply put) an engrossing, fun read and I loved the world the author created. It's like Yarros took bits and pieces of every dystopian and fantasy story I love and put into one book. It was easy to read, which is is why it appeals to so many readers (in my opinion). It's one of those books you can binge and feel like you're getting a delicious treat.

Skies of Fire

By Lindsey Pogue,

Book cover of Skies of Fire

What is my book about?

As the world burns, a small-town pariah and her grudge-holding nemesis face a choice: let go of a decade's worth of resentment or perish in the fire-scorched Earth.

After an asteroid knocks the moon off its axis, scientists warn of Earth’s eventual destruction. Governments, Moon Maniacs, and Doomsday preppers brace for the worst, but as the years tick by, life continues mostly unchanged, and it’s easy to fall into a false sense of security.

Ava is no stranger to loss, heartache, and the struggle to survive. Branded a social pariah in her small town for reasons beyond her control, she’s grown used to people’s stares and mutterings over the years. Working two jobs while caring for a sickly woman she owes her life to, it’s all Ava can do to keep her head above water, let alone prep for “the end.”

Knox is country boy royalty and infamous for holding a grudge. His mother is dead, his brother abandoned him, and Ava is to blame for all of it. While he might’ve been fed with a silver spoon, all the money in the world can’t prepare him or save his family’s ranch from what comes next.

As fire engulfs the small town of Sonora, Texas, and nearby cities crumble, Ava and Knox’s lives become more intertwined in the ensuing chaos, and they must help each other reach safety alive. Oh, and there's a twist neither of them saw coming.
