Why read it?

2 authors picked Dead Silence as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

Here we have a haunted ship -- in space!

Claire is days away from losing her job on a salvage ship when she receives a distress call from long-missing space-liner, The Aurora – likened to the Titanic in space. Having nothing to lose, she convinces the crew to investigate, reasoning that they will make a fortune from the wreckage. Once they board the ship, things take a swiftly sinister turn.

This book is so much fun and incredibly cinematic. Space horror deserves to be a much more popular genre. If you like the movie Event Horizon, you will love this…

From Amy's list on spooky ships.

I never knew I wanted a horror story set aboard an abandoned Titanic in space until I read Dead Silence.

This book involves an ill-fated recovery mission to the wreckage of a long-dead luxury cruise spaceship. What was supposed to be a major payday for the retrieval crew becomes a deadly need for escape from the chilling wreckage.

Barnes juxtaposes the main character’s horrifying experience onboard with her harrowed report to her employer afterward to raise the sense of unease and dread. Read this if you want to hesitate before looking under the bed at night for a week.

But frictions develop as Park befriends the androids of the ship, preferring their company over the baffling complexity of humans, while the rest of the crew treats them with suspicion and even outright hostility.

Shortly after landing, the crew finds themselves trapped on the ship by a radiation storm, with no…

What is this book about?

This "claustrophobic and dark" debut science fiction thriller is "full of twisting ship corridors and unreliable characters" as it explores AI ethics and the effects of climate change (Kirkus Reviews).
