Book cover of Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk

Rebekah Lyn ❤️ loved this book because...

This book was recommended by a friend and I immediately downloaded the audio version for an upcoming drive. The reflective nature of the story matched the reflective state of my life at the moment. Looking back on accomplishments, dreams lost along the way, and what lies ahead in the remaining years. The main character is a trailblazing woman with an iron will. Even as an elderly lady walking the streets of New York and facing down thugs, she shows resolve and tenacity.

NOW A NATIONAL INDIE BESTSELLER

A love letter to city life in all its guts and grandeur, Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk by Kathleen Rooney paints a portrait of a remarkable woman across the canvas of a changing America: from the Jazz Age to the onset of the AIDS epidemic; the Great Depression to the birth of hip-hop.

“In my reckless and undiscouraged youth,” Lillian Boxfish writes, “I worked in a walnut-paneled office thirteen floors above West Thirty-Fifth Street…”

Book cover of My Italian Bulldozer

Rebekah Lyn ❤️ loved this book because...

I've tried to read Alexander McCall Smith before and not enjoyed his style. I found this as a library sale and I love Italy so I decided to give it a try. I laughed out loud and fell in love with the main character. This book will make you want to visit small town Italy and have your own adventure.

By Alexander McCall Smith,

Why should I read it?

1 author picked My Italian Bulldozer as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

'While My Italian Bulldozer certainly advocates a kind, considerate, some might even say old-fashioned approach to resolving affairs of the heart, it also succeeds in subtly, almost imperceptibly ripping up the traditional rules of the romantic comedy and creating something refreshingly original' Scotsman

When writer Paul Stewart heads to the idyllic Italian town of Montalcino to finish his already late book, it seems like the perfect escape from stressful city life. Upon landing, however, things quickly take a turn for the worse when he discovers his hired car is nowhere to be found. With no record of any reservation and…

Book cover of When God Doesn't Fix It: Lessons You Never Wanted to Learn, Truths You Can't Live Without

Rebekah Lyn ❤️ loved this book because...

This is non-fiction rather than a novel, but it's a powerful story about overcoming adversity and holding on to faith through the darkness. I've had this on my bookshelf for several years but it never seemed like the right time to read it. I'm glad I finally picked it up as it helped change the way I see adversity.
