My favorite read in 2023…

Book cover of Girl, Goddess, Queen

Luciana Cavallaro Why did I love this book?

This is a different version of how Persephone and Hades became a couple.

It has humour but also deals with issues of mental and emotional abuse, arranged marriages, sexism, and female rights. I quite enjoyed the story, and the way the author addressed these ongoing concerns was effective. Worth reading.

What is this book about?

To hell with love, this goddess has other plans...

Thousands of years ago, the gods told a lie: how Persephone was a pawn in the politics of other gods. How Hades kidnapped Persephone to be his bride. How her mother, Demeter, was so distraught she caused the Earth to start dying.

The real story is much more interesting.

Persephone wasn't taken to hell: she jumped. There was no way she was going to be married off to some smug god more in love with himself than her.

Now all she has to do is convince the Underworld's annoyingly sexy, arrogant…

My 2nd favorite read in 2023…

Book cover of Rogue

Luciana Cavallaro Why did I love this book?

I've always enjoyed the story of Robin Hood and was intrigued by how the well-known legend would be told by Ms. Newcomb.

Robin and Maid Marian get married and have a family, and it's through the POV of their oldest son, Robert, who was born out of wedlock and harbours antipathy towards his father, the story is told. He becomes a mercenary soldier fighting in France before returning home and joining King John's forces.

I enjoyed the story very much and the journey of the father and son relationship. I recommend you read this book.

My 3rd favorite read in 2023…

Book cover of Natural Selection

Luciana Cavallaro Why did I love this book?

I have read all of Ms. Murray's books and have enjoyed them all. Each book is well-researched, the details of the pre-historical peoples are authentic.

You can easily imagine what life must have been like thousands of years ago and what it took to survive the harsh climes, how to hunt and avoid invasive dangerous humanoids. Sound familiar?

What I particularly found fascinating is how clever pre-historic humans were and their resilience, something that has been diminished over time. I highly recommend you read the series.

What is this book about?

In this final book of the trilogy, Lucy and her tribe leave their good home to rescue captured tribemembers who are in grave danger. Since leaving her mate, Lucy created a tribe that includes an eclectic mix of species--a Canis, a Homotherium kit, and different iterations of early man. More will join and some will die but that is the nature of prehistoric life, when survival depends on a mix of man's developing intellect and untiring will to live. Each brings unique skills to the task of saving Raza and his Group from sure death. Based on true events from…
