Lavender's Blue

I’ve been a fan of Jennifer Crusie’s writing for a long time. She’s a master at populating her stories with quirky, relatable characters. Add Bob Mayer’s talent for providing Crusie’s protagonist with a worthy and possibly dangerous ally, sprinkle in a dead body (or two!), and a fun romantic mystery to kick off their Liz Danger series is born.

I've missed Jennifer Crusie's books so much, so it was a joy to see this new series she did with Bob Mayer. The three books stood on their own, but they fit together beautifully, exploring the mysterious goings on beneath the bland surface of small town Ohio. Since it's a Crusie book, the characters are quirky, the dialogue fast and furious, the romance hot and heavy. But it's also a Mayer books, which means serious threats and violence lurking close-by. Lavender’s Blue is Book 1 The Liz, Danger Series. I devoured the series as fast as they came out. This series is Jennifer Crusie, and Bob Mayor at their best.

The books are mysteries with a growing romantic thread between the two protagonists. Their writing style is snarky, warm hearted, and funny. This series gave me so much joy. I can't stop thinking about them.

All three books in the Liz Danger series are full of guilty food pleasures.

Liz and her beloved Vince chow down at the neighborhood diner, which leads to extended descriptions of burgers, tenderloins, fries, and onion rings. It’s just one of the attractions of Burney, Ohio—the small town Liz and company and determined to save from the sinister forces trying to loot its assets and transform it into another faceless suburb.

Make sure you have at least a bag of chips on hand, and an order of nachos wouldn’t go amiss.
