Why read it?

3 authors picked Cress as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

I may be cheating here. Rapunzel is an old-time fairy tale, and Cress is a science fiction re-writing of that story, so I'm going to count it in this list as "historical." This is the third book in Meyers' Lunar Chronicles and it is my favorite of the bunch. Cress (Rapunzel) is incredibly smart and completely naive to the world. Her romantic interest is a completely dopey bad guy, who you shouldn't waste your time disliking. The odd situations they get themselves into mirror, to an extent, the famous fairy tale. Lots of fun.

From Elizabeth's list on historical novels that are light and silly.

This is the third book in the Lunar Chronicles. Although I loved all the books in this series, Cress is by far my favorite. The story flows smoothly and has plenty of action and excitement to keep you turning the page. I also love that Cress is so well written that her easily frightened nature and fragility come across as realistic and relatable, avoiding the common pitfall of being negatively viewed traits that turn readers off. The love interest, a charming and self-obsessed space pirate who instantly challenges Cress's overly romanticized view of heroes, is a great character as well,…

This is actually the third book in the Lunar Chronical series, a sci-fi/fairy tale mash-up. I totally enjoyed the whole series, but if I was forced to pick my favorite in the series this would be it. I think this one stood out to me because the main character, Cress, is so different from most heroines in novels I read. Obviously, I love the outspoken, snarky, adventurous females in these books, but Cress was a little different. Cress, a hacker stuck on a satellite since childhood, is quiet and thoughtful and not the guns blazing type. Cress lacks a lot…

New book alert!

Why am I passionate about this?

I’ve been obsessed with fantasy since my grandmother bought me the entire Dorothy and the Land of Oz series as a kid. I love discovering new types of fantasy characters, spins on characters, new lore in genres, and mythology woven in creative ways. For my fantasy group, I’ve researched many interpretations of fae, witches, elves, vampires, and shapeshifters. I’m always looking to add to my list, and I love finding Indie authors new to their niche. I feel so privileged to interview many authors like these and Jennifer L. Armentrout (squeal) for my podcast, The Finding the Magic Book Podcast. I hope you love these books as much as I did.
