Book cover of The River We Remember

Margo Sorenson ❤️ loved this book because...

Krueger has created a cast of varied and unusual characters--some that readers can empathize with and cheer for and some that they will loathe, and for good reason. The plot twists and turns are believable and readers will gasp at conclusions that are shocking, but well-prepared for. The history and culture of the Midwest are intertwined in this fascinating read that mirrors and reflects much of our society today.

What is this book about?

In 1958, a small Minnesota town is rocked by the murder of its most powerful citizen, pouring fresh fuel on old grievances in this dazzling standalone novel from the New York Times bestselling author of the "expansive, atmospheric American saga" (Entertainment Weekly) This Tender Land.

On Memorial Day, as the people of Jewel, Minnesota gather to remember and honor the sacrifice of so many sons in the wars of the past, the half-clothed body of wealthy landowner Jimmy Quinn is found floating in the Alabaster River, dead from a shotgun blast. My 2nd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Eruption

Margo Sorenson ❤️ loved this book because...

The late Michael Crichton and co-author James Patterson melded together to create a fast-paced read that takes the reader right to the Hawaiian Islands with authentic cultural references (having lived there for ten years) and keeps the reader spell-bound with plot tension, raising the stakes higher and higher. The scientific knowledge that is critical for the background of the book is vast and dense, yet communicated clearly, engaging the reader and adding to the suspense. The voice is original and smart, never condescending to the reader.

Why should I read it?

1 author picked Eruption as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

The biggest thriller of the year: A history-making eruption is about to destroy the Big Island of Hawaii. But a secret held for decades by the US military is far more terrifying than any volcano.

“The book is a classic summer beach read...Eruption will revive the art of speed-reading...told with a singular voice that is a compelling amalgam of the two writers.”—USA Today

“Eruption is an epic thriller…fast-paced and deeply considered…a cinematic story rooted in science and infused with plenty of heart, tackling big themes like love and loss.”

From the highly acclaimed author of Bad Monkey and Razor Girl comes this hilarious new novel of social and political intrigue, set against the glittering backdrop of Florida's gold coast.

It's the height of the Palm Beach charity ball season: for every good cause, there's a reason for the local luminaries to eat (minimally), drink (maximally), and be seen. But when prominent high-society dowager Kiki Pew suddenly vanishes during a swanky gala, and is later…
