Book cover of Charity's Fire

Joy Neal Kidney ❤️ loved this book because...

Two couples enjoy an outing on a boat, when they encounter a ferocious storm. But it’s much more than a storm. Unseen entities are at war over the humans, who encounter such devastation. Not only that, but other humans plot their own mayhem. All of these collide on an island in a terrifying story ending with a portentous scene. Charity’s Fire is full of caution, but also hope.

What is this book about?

For the two couples on the boat it felt like a vacation. It looked like a vacation. Heck, it even smelled like a vacation- but it was an elaborate trap.

To tip the scales in an ancient war, the plan demanded that at least one of the humans be sacrificed. If successful, this operation would reach through time, alter children, and alienate grandchildren-forever. They were betting everything to change the unrealized destiny of this family- by destroying their hope.

Is destruction, chaos, hatred, and hopelessness always the byproduct of the fog of war? The enemy is counting on it. When…

My 2nd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Broken People: From the case files of Sheriff Will Diaz

Joy Neal Kidney ❤️ loved this book because...

Broken People is about PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and the need to work through it. It's also about policework, bad choices, family dynamics, and second chances. Broken People is the third in the author’s The Lawman Series. You’ll want to read the other books because of Will Diaz, the Lawman himself, but also a rich community of compelling characters, including one called Zorro. Someone should make a movie of this one.

My 3rd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of The Modern Christ: A Contemporary Retelling of the Story of Jesus

Joy Neal Kidney ❤️ loved this book because...

"The Modern Christ" is the ultimate "what if" story. What if Jesus were born in contemporary America? Think Jewish immigrants working mundane jobs, a president named Herod, astronomers discovering a strange star. John the Baptist as a woodsman, becoming an internet sensation, Jesus praying before distributing five sandwiches and two protein bars. You get the idea. This powerful story will resonate with those caught up in social media, helping make a fresh connect with the life of Christ.

What is this book about?

What if Jesus Christ were alive today?

Mary is a young immigrant living in the United States during the 1980s. One evening, her mundane life is suddenly turned upside down when a mysterious stranger arrives with the unbelievable news that she’s pregnant.

There’s only one problem. Mary is a virgin.

Nine months later, she miraculously gives birth to a baby boy that would change the world forever. His name? Jesus Christ.
While most children are watching The Smurfs and roaming the aisles of Toys “R” Us, Jesus and his parents must evade a ruthless president that will stop at nothing to kill…

Don‘t forget about my book 😀

Book cover of Leora's Letters: The Story of Love and Loss for an Iowa Family During World War II

What is my book about?

The day the second atomic bomb was dropped, Clabe and Leora Wilson’s postman brought a telegram to their acreage near Perry, Iowa.

One son was already in the US Navy before Pearl Harbor had been attacked. Four more sons worked with their father, tenant farmers near Minburn, Iowa, until, one by one, all five sons were serving their country in the military.

Five brothers served. Only two came home.
