My favorite read in 2023

Sophia Soames Why did I love this book?

Suki Fleet is one of those rare authors whose writing is just sublime. Sheer perfection, I dare to say, reading like poetry, the sentences jumping straight off the page. Every feeling, every word, is felt on your own skin as you read, making their books an emotional and fully absorbing treat.

This book is a paranormal story of love, abandonment, and lifelong hope intertwined with a mystery to be solved. I always love a good dose of Suki’s trademark gutwrenching hurt/comfort, and this book delivered that in spades.

What I loved most about this book is the space that the reader is gifted, where page by page, the story delivers a world that you just have to take your time with, letting the words sink in and slowly build. Nothing is spoon-fed here, and that is just the way I like it. If you are tired of those formulaic romances, then this book will stop you in your tracks. It is a wonderful, comforting winter read.

My 2nd favorite read in 2023

Book cover of Town Bronze

Sophia Soames Why did I love this book?

I am a huge fan of Queer Historical romance writer Ellie Thomas. Her trademark novellas are just the perfect antidote to a rainy afternoon, best enjoyed with a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Whilst Ellie’s always included a little steam in her stories, this was her first dabble with kink thrown in the mix. As it turns out, Jasper quickly became a new favorite amongst Ellie’s many London men, the hapless youngster who figures out that he’s not only got a thing for Sir Mortimer, but Jasper definitely has a thing for….Sir Mortimer's firm hand.

A historical romp, a love story, and Ellie’s attention to detail made this quick read an outstanding story! There is nothing better than a book that stays with you, and I have to admit to wishing this one had been a full-length novel. A fun comfort read for when you just want a quick fix of romance!

My 3rd favorite read in 2023

Book cover of The Sinner's Penance

Sophia Soames Why did I love this book?

KC Carmine has a certain European flair to all of her stories, a quality I appreciate as a reader. I also love how she pushed boundaries and elegantly mixes love and attraction with a heady dose of light-hearted kink.

As the title suggests here, this book features a man disguised as a priest, a besotted parishioner in need of a good seeing to, and no romance would be complete without a mafia backstory and some villains to throw in the mix.

I really, really enjoyed this steamy romp of a M/M romance, and it’s one of the books that stood out the most for me this year because it was different, quirky, and kept me on my toes.

Don‘t forget about my book 😀

White Noise

By Sophia Soames,

What is my book about?

When award-winning actor Con Telford assaults a completely innocent member of the public, by accident of course, he never in a million years thought that the guy on the receiving end of his fist would be the love of his life. But life works in mysterious ways, and there is something about Matt Winston that Con just can’t read. Is it…friendship? Attraction? Or has Con simply lost his mind?

White Noise is a low-angst, high-steam, full-length novel about two guys who stumble awkwardly into their HEA.
