The Meaning of Marriage was released shortly after my husband and I got married.

As newlyweds, it shaped how we viewed our marriage from a Christian perspective. It helped us to put Christ at the center and love each other as Christ loved the church. As many also experience, the first years of marriage contained many challenges.

Reading The Meaning of Marriage helped us to walk through difficult without losing our focus on why we were married in the first place. 

Timothy Keller’s book was prompted by a sermon series he preached on marriage.

He provides insightful and refreshing takes on the passages he preached through which comes out in the book’s pages. He draws on his own personal experiences with his wife to offer insights while frequently striving to maintain a biblical perspective.

He also debunks many of the modern-day misconceptions about marriage and uses Scripture to do so.

The Kellers debunk the myth that marriage is meant to satisfy every need and that our spouse is supposed to become our soul mate. Seeped in biblical wisdom, The Meaning of Marriage offers deep wisdom and practical insights for all couples, regardless of how long they have been married. Tim and Kathy emphasize the need for sacrifice, honesty, and fidelity, among other characteristics so that the partner and their marriage can mature and deepen. I may not agree with all of his hermeneutics but I deeply appreciated this book.
