Lobel is a children’s author and illustrator who was married to another children’s author and illustrator (Arnold Lobel of Frog & Toad fame; he died in 1987). Her first memoir detailed her harrowing experiences as a Jewish child in Poland during World War II, ending with her arriving in the U.S. in her late teens.
