I love to learn, and as a phychologist, this book not only taught me some new things, but it also verified many thing I've learned in my may years of working with people.

Pete Walker is most well known for introducing the fourth “F” response when it comes to trauma: FAWN.

For me personally, growing up in an environment where submission and appeasement was key, fawning became a natural state I lived in. Pete’s work helped me understand Complex PTSD on a deeper level and gives incredible tools and interventions to the reader to help navigate through a process of healing.

This book is essential reading for anyone recovering from complex trauma. C-PTSD is the outcome of growing up in a toxic home with years of physical or emotional abuse and neglect.

I felt less alone reading a book by a survivor instead of someone who only treats survivors. He makes you feel understood as he describes his own experiences as a child and how they impacted his self-worth. When your parents ignore you or only notice you to criticize, you develop a negative self-regard.
