The main character, Ove, is a grumpy old man who grows on the reader as the story progresses. The clever use of unique metaphors and similies add to the humour as do the appearance of other interesting characters. I liked how contemporary issues such as immigrants, elder care, disabilities, family dynamics and homosexuality are covered in this entertaining and heartfelt story. There is also a cat! There is something for everyone in this engaging and well-written story.

I loved this book and savoured every sentence. It's like a long slow boat ride to happiness!

I loved this story by a master storyteller. I listened to the audiobook. The reading was well done and each character had a distinctive voice. I felt like I was there with the puppets. The lessons in the book are subtle. And who doesn't like puppets? Kate DiCamillo has once again penned a story that not only children will enjoy.
