Audrey Driscoll ❤️ loved this book because...

I had read it decades ago and forgotten many of the details so wanted to revisit it. Despite length, complexity, and slowness at times, it was a worthwhile reading experience and deserves its status as an enduring classic.

Audrey Driscoll ❤️ loved this book because...

Because of the premise--close observation of a small patch of forest for an entire year. But from this circumscribed space, the author zooms out to the entire natural world. I learned a lot about plants, birds, animals, and many smaller life forms. The writing is readable and poetic.

She Who Comes Forth

By Audrey Driscoll,

Book cover of She Who Comes Forth

What is my book about?

October 1962. The developing nuclear missile crisis in Cuba is of no concern to Francesca "France" Leighton.  Recently turned 21, she travels to Luxor, Egypt, taking with her two legacies—an antique cello and an emerald ring.

Instead of the archaeological adventure she expects, she gets a lecherous dig director, hidden agendas, a risky balloon ride, and an enigmatic nuclear physicist.

As the world teeters on the brink of nuclear war, France calls upon resources both within and beyond herself to meet the perils in the world of the dead beneath the Western Peak. In the mysteries of the ancient tombs, France realizes she and her gifts may imperil the world—or save it.
