Book cover of The Book of Two Ways

Rita Lee Chapman Why did I love this book?

This is an intricate love story which will take you on an emotional journey.

Having survived a plane crash, Dawn decides that, instead of going home to her husband of fifteen years in Boston, she will fly straight to Cairo and her previous lover.

Going back to the world of archaeology, which she loved - the excitement of the discovery of a new tomb, even the hard conditions, lack of space and comforts – she is forced to face her feelings for the man she left behind all those years ago.

Did she make a mistake when she left him, or did she make the right decision? Will she be able to work alongside him on the project, or will their relationship pick up where they left off? I didn’t like the ending of this book, but I did enjoy the story!

My 2nd favorite read in 2023

Book cover of And the Mountains Echoed

Rita Lee Chapman Why did I love this book?

Although I had previously read A Thousand Splendid Suns by the same author, I found And The Mountains Echoed to be far superior. The characters were very believable and endearing, and the writing was superb.

These stories about life in Afghanistan cover success and failure, sad times and happy times, and will tug at your heartstrings. Especially moving is Abdullah’s love for his young sister, Pari, whom he cared for like a parent when she was young before they were ripped apart.

I sometimes found this book hard to follow because of the constant jumps between characters and timesbut this wouldn’t stop me from recommending it as a wonderful read.

My 3rd favorite read in 2023

Book cover of Horse

Rita Lee Chapman Why did I love this book?

This is a beautifully crafted, fictional story about the legendary racehorse and sire, Lexington. An amazing relationship developed over time between Jarrett and Lexington, which all horse people will understand.

This story is actually three stories in one, covering three different time periods, all centering around a painting of Lexington. A very clever concept and a story that all horse lovers will enjoy.

The Poinciana Tree

By Rita Lee Chapman,

Book cover of The Poinciana Tree

What is my book about?

This story is set around the beautiful Poinciana tree, with its amazing red flowers.

Suzanne Matthews arrives home from work to find the kitchen in disarray and her daughter missing. After searching the house, her eyes turn towards the garden, drawn to the Poinciana tree. Underneath its canopy, she sees her daughter slumped against its trunk.

When the police are unable to identify Jennifer’s killer, they turn their attention to her husband, Mark. While coping with her grief, she finds herself fighting to prove her husband’s innocence as her world is turned upside down. She is inspired by another woman who went with her husband to the Sudan as medical volunteers for a charity organization—a tale of raw emotion, desperation, and acceptance.
