My favorite read in 2023

Book cover of Twisted Emotions

Liz Ashlee Why did I love this book?

2023 was the year I became a mafia romance reader, and this book ignited my addiction.

This book is book two in the Camorra Chronicles series and let me be honest when I say I was practically salivating to read it before I even finished book one.

What I love most about it is that I loved its leading man, Nino, before I even started it. Nino is an interesting, original, and well-written character who pairs well with his strong, sweet, resilient love interest, Kira.

It is a book I recommend checking the trigger warnings for, but I think it’s a realistic and heartbreaking take on real-life problems (mafia aside). It's easily a book I could read over and over and over again.

My 2nd favorite read in 2023

Book cover of June First

Liz Ashlee Why did I love this book?

The book is a behemoth, and I read it in a day. On top of that, I cried the entire time I read it. Let me tell you, I actively avoid and hate movies, books, television, etc., that make me cry, but June First is my exception.

I love a love story that withstands decades. I love matches that feel fated. I love it when characters mature and learn. This book has all of that and more.

My 3rd favorite read in 2023

Book cover of End of Story

Liz Ashlee Why did I love this book?

I always find Kylie Scott's book a refreshing change of pace from my usual reads because they're always laugh-out-loud funny, with quips and banter.

Admittedly, I was hesitant because this book had a touch of magic–which books I read normally don't. Well, how dare I question Kylie Scott?

This book is a unique story told in Kylie's fun, comedic fashion. As always, the heroine was uber-relatable, witty, and independent, while the hero was grumpy and swoon-worthy.

What is my book about?

He’s her anchor. She’s his life preserver.

Maxine Dawson is pretending. She’s pretending to be excited for her best friend’s impending wedding, pretending her plans don’t involve moving back in with her parents, pretending she can move on from her past. Mostly, she’s been pretending that she’s been okay since her fiancé, Ethan, died.

Cain Hazelton is many things, but he is not pretending. Everyone knows about his short fuse, his preference for seclusion, that he only lets himself care about one person - his Grams.

When Max and Cain’s worlds collide, they gravitate toward each other for different reasons. For Max, Cain shuts down her constant flood of emotions and for Cain, Max makes him feel his emotions for the first time in his life. But before they can find their happiness they must overcome their pasts, their fears, and take a chance on love.

Liz Ashlee’s stories are emotional reads about real world problems. Fans of An Optimist’s Guide to Heartbreak/A Pessimist’s Guide to Heartbreak by Jennifer Hartmann and Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker will love her romance about grief and finding the one who makes you want to live again.
