Why read it?
3 authors picked The Magical Yet as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?
I love this book because every single child can relate to the struggles of the main characters and can see how they learn from their mistakes and continue to push through (the foundation of the growth mindset concept).
The vivid illustrations mesmerize, and the lively text keeps readers engaged while encouraging one of my favorite sayings, “Not yet, but I’m still trying!”
From Cindy's list on picture books for growth mindset.
We talk a lot about our word choices and mindset in my home. When my older daughter was learning something new, she would say, “I can’t do this!” We talked about how she was learning, and she’s capable of learning. Her kindergarten teacher then taught my daughter “you don’t know how… yet!” Yet is a power-packed word because it radiates hope which leads to courageous action. This book exemplifies the power of yet so well that I had to share with you. The ending sweetly reminds us that our yet goes with us.
From Tasha's list on how to live courageously.
If you’re looking for a great way to introduce or continue the conversation about growth mindset, this book is delightful. I love that the character's problems don’t get solved in one attempt. My kids enjoyed the bright, whimsical illustrations and stayed engaged throughout (which is not always the case with books that are trying to teach something). Colombian artist Lorena Alvarez made the words come alive with her colorful magic.
From Jessica's list on back to school.
