Why read it?
2 authors picked The Last Light of the Sun as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?
The publisher’s blurb for this novel says: "In the stirring tradition of Northern Europe's heroic sagas, Kay brings to life an unforgettable world balanced on the knife-edge of change."
The lives of three young people, a Celt, an Anglo-Saxon and a Viking, coincide in this unforgettable story full of action and elements of the supernatural. Kay mixes history and fantasy in his own special way to create a frightening yet tender coming-of-age tale.
A beautifully written page-turner.
From J.G.'s list on factual fantasy for coming-of-age Viking stories.
Guy Gavriel Kay’s books taught me almost everything I know about creating a world that is based on Earth’s history—but isn’t quite that history. I picked this book because its time frame – or its equivalent in real history – overlaps with my fictional world. The sense of danger and invasion, but also of a world where there are some inklings of a world beyond the isolated, invaded island, inspired some aspects of the world of my book.
From Marian's list on settings in a world that’s not quite ours.
