The Grey Bastards
Book description
'AN ADDICTIVELY READABLE - AND UNDENIABLY COOL - FANTASY MASTERWORK' Kirkus
BRING ON THE ORCS . . .
Jackal is proud to be a Grey Bastard, member of a sworn brotherhood of half-orcs. Unloved and unwanted in civilized society, the Bastards eke out a hard life in the desolate no-man's-land…
Why read it?

Did someone say a brotherhood of half-orcs? Sign me the hell up.
I’ve always loved non-human characters, whether monsters, aliens, ghouls, or whatever. I’ve always strongly identified with the “other.” When monsters do show up, they’re often depicted as just that: monsters. This is especially true of orcs.
But in The Grey Bastards, we get to see these mutts as so much more than drooling, mindless beasts. Their loyalty and brotherhood is what keeps them alive. When they’re riding out into battle, it’s not their tactics or strategy that gives them the edge, it’s knowing that whether they live…
From Jeremy's list on SFF books about brotherhood and male friendships.
This book really adds a different dimension to the Orc race, starting with their blood. The race of half-orcs have a sort of hierarchy based on whether their mother or father was an orc, and they have different attributes both physically and culturally. The story follows a platoon, or hoof, of hog riding calvary that are basically a motorbike gang as they patrol the lawless lands. The language is foul and the characters crude and rough, but the writing is brilliant and I loved how the author brought the outlaw type to the orc race.
From Aiden's list on featuring orcs.
Do you like orcs? Do you wish they were the heroes every so often? Cool. Read this book. These orc motherfuckers are huge fun to hang out with as they patrol the hazardous Lot Lands, uncovering evil plots and wrecking shit. Bonus: they ride hogs. Think Sons of Anarchy meets Lord of the Rings.
From Jackson's list on swear words in the title.
