Why read it?

4 authors picked Someone Else's Shoes as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

I wanted to read this because the title made me think, "Yes, I want to know what it's like to be in someone else's shoes." And...yes, this delivered. I really enjoyed the journey that Nisha and Sam go on, swapping places. Along with the other supporting female characters, what I read felt so feminist and empowering.

As a reader, I marveled at all of the subtle messages we were given about what it means to truly support other women. This all came in a very fun, entertaining, and page-turning book! Loved!

I found this book wonderfully relatable, imagining myself as either of the two main protagonists who accidentally swapped shoes at the gym and whose lives are changed accordingly. The mix-ups and mess-ups that ensued had me clutching my sides.

I was so invested in both the characters and how their lives would turn out I nearly cried when I finished it. I found this book very clever and believable as well; a tiny bit far-fetched but still realistic.

I’ve been a huge fan of this author for a long time, as she writes about women’s stories in a fun yet emotional way.

This is the story of a woman who seemingly has everything and another woman who doesn’t. The second woman finds the first one’s duffle bag filled with expensive clothes, and as she wears them, she begins to feel different and more confident. So confident that she makes changes in her life for the better.

During this time, the first woman’s life falls apart. It’s hard not to compare yourself to others who seem to have more,…

What is my book about?

Every picture tells a story, but it’s not always the one we expect or remember. Christmas Actually is a festive drama about family and forgiveness and a snapshot of modern family life, addressing Instagram to motherhood and everything in between.

Why Christmas? My publisher wanted my new novel to have a festive theme, specifically set in Australia–sun, surf, sunburn, and prawns. Christmas in Australia is very different from Christmas in the UK, USA, and Canada. We typically wear shorts and t-shirts, eat salad and seafood for Christmas lunch, and play beach cricket in the afternoon. Despite the season, conflicts, secrets,…

What is this book about?

Time spent with family can be challenging, especially at Christmas actually…

Kate Cavendish is stuck in a rut. That is until a former colleague contacts her and offers her a chance to fulfil her lifelong dream of becoming a successful photographer.

With her focus pulled in all directions by her children, her pregnant sister, her newly-dating mother, and the niggling worry that her husband might be having an affair, Kate is filled with self-doubt.

Then as the countdown to Christmas begins, and memories of her own childhood resurface, Kate’s anxiety deepens – both personally and professionally. Can she move on…

I listened to this on holiday. I had a limited luggage allowance, so I downloaded something intelligent but fun. I am now a audio book convert. Daisy Ridley is a superb narrator, conjuring the different characters and their voices beautifully.

The premise is simple: two very different women leave a local gym with the wrong bag and are literally forced to walk in each other’s shoes. Although it seems light and witty, this novel has something serious to say.

JoJo Moyes launches us into a sharply plotted story of mid-life female camaraderie involving a rich cast of supporting characters from…
