This book can be described in one word: Fun. From a ship crewed by female pirates to a quest for treasure, it has all the witty dialogue and adventure to match the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but instead features a fierce, female captain named Alosa who has mad skills and a way of looking at the world that will make you laugh out loud and cheer her on.
This is the first in a duology, so it’s also not too much of a commitment to read, unlike some longer series. Both books are equally fast-paced and enjoyable. If you’re…

Pirates is a genre that doesn’t get enough love, and this book proves it! Alosa is a pirate determined to bring glory to her father, even allowing herself to be kidnapped in the process all to gain the information he seeks. But night after night of looking brings nothing but suspicion when a fellowship mate suspects she’s more than her little act would lead them to assume. The twists of family drama that come from multiple sets of pirates keep this one intriguing until the last minute!
From Elizabeth's list on fantasy with a twist you never saw coming.
Alosa is described as “a female Jack Sparrow” (without the rum) and she doesn't disappoint. She's on a quest to retrieve a portion of a map and allows herself to get captured by her enemies to complete her mission. Unfortunately, the handsome first mate, Riden is just as cunning and intelligent as Alosa. The characters challenge and thwart each other causing complete exasperation and tension. I finished this book in one day because I couldn't wait until their passion bubbled over.

Alosa is a woman on a mission, one she’s determined to complete at all costs to prove herself to her father. The greatest obstacle in her way is Riden, the first mate of the pirate ship she is held “captive” on. He is a more formidable adversary than she had first thought, although adversarial doesn’t always describe their relationship. I loved the complexity of the characters and all of the plot twists.

This book cultivated my love for pirate books, and the fantasy elements are woven in expertly. The main character is both fierce and feminine, and is such a role model for readers of all ages. The plot had plenty of twists and turns, and the adventure never slowed. It grips the reader until the very end!
From Lina's list on fantasy set by the sea to warm the winter blues.
Alosa is the type of pirate I would want to be. She’s got swagger, sword skills, daring, and wit. She deliberately lets herself get captured by her enemies (but will they stay enemies???) in order to search their ship for an ancient map leading to a legendary treasure. However, on her quest to not everything is as it seems—even Alosa herself. I love the twists and turns you take as you explore this robust pirate world!
