Around the World in Eighty Days
Book description
Some novels are considered classics of children literature, read by numerous generations of young readers who made them immortal. Why read it?
3 authors picked Around the World in Eighty Days as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?
This book, while almost nothing like the movies made in its name, is a fun little adventure story without all the embellishment of Hollywood.
While some might find its pace a little slow and the plot rather simple for modern audiences, its straightforward charm is what makes it such a good read, in my opinion. After you remind yourself that this story is taking place in 1872, you can just sit back and have fun with it as you will come to see that it is a very clever story and true to the time period it is set in.
I advise that you should let your mind wander, and you will very easily fall in love with the well-defined characters and the suspense of the story. Have we not all raced against time in our own lifetime? It is a really fun read, especially if you use your imagination to join in, and that…
From Gary's list on life and it's changes – the what, where, and why.
A classic. A roadmap for anyone who wants to pack up and take on the world. It has everything: planes and ships and elephants, a hot air balloon, an eccentric Englishman with a valet and top hat! Also, it made me laugh, and gave me courage on my own adventures; if Phileas Fogg can escape enraged priests, storms, robbers, Sioux Indians...nothing that happens to me can be as bad as all that.
From Yara's list on to read while taking a flight.
